3.73's + T2R Differential?
3.73's + T2R Differential?
I've been planning a gear upgrade for some time now... did all the homework, determined exactly what I was going to go for (OEM 3.73's, rebuild kit, T/A cover), then started looking into replacing the differential while im in there...
Doing a lot of research yielded that I'd probably be wanting to go with a T2R (Torsen). Great... execept that I just read there may be clearancing issues with the 3.73's + T2R!
Anyone have any info on this? Anyone have Motive/AAM/Yukon OEM's 373's with a Torsen T2R? I heard grinding may be necessary, what exactly would need to be ground?

they have to grind the paddle or paddles that are in the rear. paid a shop to do it for mine. anything over 3.42 requires it. SLP used to sell a paddle kit but it's easier to just grind it
btw if you're autoxing, i wouldn't recommend 3.73s unless you have wide open courses and the other f-bods are using 2nd gear. i'm going back to 3.42s since i'm hitting the rev limiter in 1st on our relatively tight autox courses
also Sam Strano has reported a lot of problems with the T2Rs made after 2004. something about lower quality metal being used, he's broken 3 recently and now runs the auburn race diff

Well I talked with Sam and can confirm what stopthatman had said. Hes burnt out two personally and he recommends the auburn racers diff now instead. The T2R's prices are too high, they seem to have supply problems and they he said they didn't seem to care about addressing the failures on the differentials. So it looks like i'll be going with an Auburn Race diff instead
