I just got around to installing an oil temp gauge on my 383 t-76 LT1 and was totally shocked to see what it was reading. Normal crusing its 200F... full throttle at 10psi for about 5 seconds and its over 260F. This is with a 1/2 filled block and an after market oil cooler (12" x 6") mounted on the radiator with the fans on. The temp gauge sensor is plugged in at the port above the oil filter and I'm not sure if its pre or post cooler (between the filter type of cooler) but the oil is getting way too hot!

what are you guys seeing?

And if you do not have an oil cooler on your turbo car I HIGHLY recommend one! a very big one lol

I'd like to know as well. I'm looking at a big cooler with or without fan.

SMR: Is your cooling circuit separate from the turbo lube circuit?

How many run a cooler then right into the turbo?

Where is the ideal point to take an oil temperature reading? In the pan? Pre-turbo? Post turbo (max??)

Thanks,
-Scott.

After warm up, burnout and a 8 sec WOT run im usually at 230F, highest temp i have seen is 248F but then i had a cooling problem also. Aint no problem as long as youre under 250F but at 260F i should begin to worrie.
(half filled block)
Edit: no turbo engine.

My oil cooling system consists of these two parts :

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

oil cooler is mounted to the radiator and a pusher fan supplies the breeze it gets through the radiator.

The turbo is a water cooled unit and the coolant temps do not get over 190F. The one thing about the turbo I have going against me is the .81 A/R turbine housing which is getting very hot. EGT's measured at turbine exit never get above 1100F though @ 11.5:1 AFR measured on a LM-1 wideband.

My oil temperature sensor is plumbed into the port above the oil filter which is also the supply line going to the turbo. I figured thats the oil that the motor bearings and the turbo will see so thats where the temp needs to be monitored. I am not sure if that port is pre or post oil filter (and cooler) though... some one care to chime in on that?

My oil temp gauge maxes out at 260F so its hard to tell just how hot its getting. I know its gone over 260F just not sure how far... 300F???? temps outside here are only 70F right now. I've got to find a way to keep it under 250 in 100F texas heat

If anyone has an oil cooler system that works good I'm all ears (eyes).
