BFG DR's for the street?
BFG DR's for the street?
I need a pair of 315's for the back since my Summitomo's are about bald already. The Summitomo's suck for traction.
Anyways, I'm lucky if I put 1,000 miles on my car in a year. My drive to work is 2 miles, and sometimes i use another vehicle instead of the Z. I'm looking to get drag radials. I was looking at the Nitto dr's, but everyone is saying that they are really skinny compared to other 315's. So this has me looking at the BFG dr's.
Has anyone ever had to run on BFG dr's in the rain?
What kinda mileage can I expect out of them on the street?

I ran my 315 BFG DR's in a very heavy rain storm with no problems, but the tread was brand new at the time. I haven't put enough miles on them over the years I owned them to know how long they last.
Thats all I needed to hear. The only time I'm on the highway is for about a half a mile. The rest of the trip is through neighborhoods. I ocassionally take the car out for a spirited drive, and would love to have better traction with this stall converter I have now. If I ever get caught in the rain, its comforting to know I'll at least be somewhat safe if I I drive it right.
As far as wear, the BFG's appear to wear faster than the Nitto's, but slower than the M/T's. I have no idea at all how many miles I have on my BFG's, since the car is pretty much a "track" car and usually sits in the garage with slicks on it.
Do the BFgs have any handling characteristics or are they just straight line performance? I thought about getting a set since my Z is just a weekend cruiser and my Dodge does all the daily driving duties along with my service truck(company vehicle)
IF you dont drive the car much you will be fine.
Wear all depends on how often you race the car as my bfg's only lasted 3000 miles YET i was at the local drag strip every weekend for maybe 8-9 friday nights in a row burning the **** out of them.
As far as rain, whoa! DO NOT try to drive on a set of bfg's after the nipples wear off!
We tried to go out cruising one night and got caught in a rain storm and well, came REALLY close to ending up in a ditch on the side of the highway.

I hope that's true about the MT tire mileage, but I think that's just wishfull thinking on my part. And guys, be carefull on any DR in the rain, even if there new.
I am said person with 14k plus on MTs...
Had 315 BFGs on TA, with even more miles than that...Only had one small rain problem during a tornado in Memphis 3 years ago...
I much prefer the MTs though...

I guess it could have had something to do with the driver of the vehicle haha, i let my buddy drive the car because we were going to hit a club and i had a few in me.
Said friend had never driven the car before and is used to driving a freakin toyota camry. Two different beasts+rain storm=yeah, thats gotta be it.

i have them and as lond as you have at least 25psi in them they will handle alright. If your at 17 or 18 their like mush. But when i have them they way the front sway is off the car and the shocks are set real loose. So i wouldnt blame the mushy feeling all on the tires.
