canuck94z28 03-13-2008, 06:38 AM I will be installing the headers soon and am currently using Msd 8.5 wires. My ? is will these wires fit w/ these headers, and any problems w/length,protection(from heat)etc show up?Also these headers have a y pipe;can i use my Borla one or the one that came w/headers.Thanks for any replies.
2000GTP 03-13-2008, 04:02 PM Length-wise should be fine, as for heat, you are going to have to make sure each wire is secured away from the header primaries. You may have to use some cable ties to do this. I have seen people use either a stock wire setup or the over-the-valve cover setup on mid-length headers.

2000GTP 03-15-2008, 04:15 PM I'm pretty sure MAC offers their own y-pipe as well, that would probably be the best choice to ensure proper fitment with the headers.

OTVC looms are highly preferred, but if you've "cut to length" your MSD wires,
they might not route up to the valve covers. Here's some Made4You looms: http://picasaweb.google.com/calder.cay/Z28/photo#5177375703425007154
canuck94z28 03-22-2008, 04:44 AM Thanks for the reply.Where do you you buy those looms from?
www.summitracing.com carries the Made For You looms. There may be other vendors, but that's where I got mine.
caldercay 03-22-2008, 09:32 AM Thanks for the reply.Where do you you buy those looms from?
Where I buy most of my parts: Summit. For those Made4You looms,
the part # is MFY-5035613. The red in my photo is a bit off - it looks
a bit more orange than it really is. Anyway, you can get different
color looms, so if you want something other than red, you'll obviously
have to search for another part #. I think I paid something like $42.00
for those.
2000GTP 03-22-2008, 10:13 AM Thunder racing sells a kit that has the looms, wires, and crimper tool. That is who I purchased my looms from. From what I heard last, that kit was on back order, not sure if that is still the case.
canuck94z28 03-24-2008, 02:55 AM Thanks for the replies guys.As for the y pipe i would assume everybody w/the mac headers uses the y pipe that comes w/them.I just thought that since the Borla was larger/and stainless steel that it might be better to use it.Any opinions on this ?

Assuming the Borla will work dimension wise, then go ahead and run it. Otherwise, if it is off, but still workable, an exhaust shop should be able to modify it to work with your MAC headers.
canuck94z28 03-26-2008, 01:20 PM Thanks for the reply.Another reason i want to use the Borla one is it is staiinless steel and the Mac one needs to be ceramic coated ,as well as the headers, obviously increasing the cost.

If the main selling factor to you for the Borla is that it is stainless steel, the Magnaflow catback is also stainless steel and quite a bit cheaper.

and it sounds alot better IMO
SNOTGREEN 03-28-2008, 09:38 AM I have the bbks on my '93 in my sig which are very similar to the mac's in design. I don't really care for them and will likely opt for pacesetter LTs later on down the road. fitment seems to be fine, plug access isn't very good (comparable to SLP's), and case in point, even though they are not very big headers, you still need to pull the ypipe to remove the starter, so if you have one of unknown origin or life, you may want to go ahead and replace while you've got good access. The ypipe flange I wasn't real please with as I prefer crush sleeves to flat flanges, but regardless, I doubt I'd have a ypipe coated as they are far enough away from the block to not be that big of an issue, IMO.
I think the wires will fit up just fine, just ensure you either use heat shields per wire, or tie them away from the primaries. Good luck.

Good luck. The plug access w/the Mac,s are one of the best from what i,ve heard, and i,m getting the y coated w/the headers as it,s a lot worse than the headers themselves.I only want to do this once!:D
