Seat belt question.....
Seat belt question.....
First off, HOWDY!
I'm new to the forum and a new camaro (95 Z28) owner.
I"m looking forward to the info and comradery here.
My first question has to do with safety....
I was going to take my sons out for a little drive today. While my wife and myself was buckling the kids in the back, she noticed that none of the seatbelts "caught" when leaning forward. I tried while braking but nada! I would have suspected one or two of the seat belts not working properly, but all 4?!
So, my question is this.....
Do the seatbelts on the 95 Z28 catch at all??? there by preventing me or my passengers from faceplanting into the dash/airbag/ or the back of my seat.
Any info would be awesome!
Thanks
JOhn

That's an interesting point I never thought about. I just ran out to check mine after reading this, and mine don't catch either with a firm tug. Mine is also a '95.
I'm pretty sure the ones on my Mountaineer do. Next time I drive the Z, I'll pay attention to it and see if I can get them to 'catch'.
Welcome to the board. There's a wealth of information to be had here and some really good people.

Try and find a bumpy area to drive on. Move your body forward and backward while you run over the bumps, it should catch. Mine does, I have a 97 so I don't know the differences in years if there is any at all.
Mine lock right up in the 95 as soon as you do a quick stop or slow down, or cornering a bit hard. Id see about swapping them out from a salvage car that hasnt been wrecked. Also if yours has been wrecked before that might be why. It is recommended to always replace seatbelts after a wreck. Mine was previously wrecked and as far as I know the belts are original so its a case by case I guess.
Edit - Mine dont catch if you just tug on them either, but they are always there when needed.

Thanx!
Yeah...I figured they're supposed to lock.
I guess I'll have to find replacements...
I'm gonna see if I can just clean the "guts" of the mechanism.
Maybe it's just dirty or gunked up....
Thanks for the help fellas!

Hi, yeah my 95Z has the exact same issue. I noticed it a few months ago while I was taking apart the interior to redo the headliner and carpeting. Its defiantly not normal, it also doesn't ratchet back when I pull them out all the way and feed them back in. I'm going to take them apart if possible and try to figure out what went wrong. I bet we all got parts from the same "bad" batch at the factory. I'm the original owner so I know mine has not been in an accident. I wonder if our cars have similar production numbers.
Best of luck!
