i have an 87 camaro v-6 automatic and, i knew something want right from the time i started it because i felt an aweful vibration and i heard a clanging and it sounded like the tranny or the flywheel or something. anyway i went to get on the on ramp for the highway and got on the gas a little and then it went it felt like the tranny just slipped in neutral went to try and give it more gas and it just reved while it was in gear. soo i was reving it and listening while it was in gear. and i finally shut it off for someone to pick me up. soo it's cold out soo i thought i would start it up and try to get some heat. and it wouldnt start it sounded like my starter was under a huge loud trying to start the thing. so my brain is racked trying to figure out what went wrong and what i should fix. can anyone give me any suggestions. cause if it was the tranny wouldnt the car start in park or neutral. but it has to be the tranny cause i was in gear and it just gave out in gear... help me please.

Did the vibration and clanging only happen when you were running the starter to start it, or did it continue after you released the starter and continued to drive the car?

I'm going to guess this is a tranny problem, and move the thread to the "Drivetrain" forum....

Sounds to me like you broke your flex plate
