GT-R video
so it basically has a 4000 Stall Converter build in... clever.... good for the Nissan boys... that just means that the corvette team have a light up their *** to make the z06 vette even better. Competition is a good thing.
First off, the GT-R is a beast and a real contender. I respect this car even imensily, and that is even though it isn't my cup of tea. I think Nissan did their homework and made a good product. So don't take what I say as bashing in any way towards Nissan.
With that said, I wouldn't worry about the straight line numbers Edmunds produced too much. The reason being, any monkey should be able to run good numbers with a lot of power and a smart all wheel drive system (which it sounds like the GT-R has). Running a 11.6 at 120 is impressive. But before the "that just means that the corvette team have a light up their *** to make the z06 vette even better" diatribe gets going in another thread, look at what people have been doing with thier Z06s with stock tires. We know for a fact that the Z06 has been track tested to a 10 second quarter mile time by a few owners. We also know for a fact that others have ran very low 11 second times with thier Z06s.
The only other factor that needs considering is Edmunds does sucks at driving (Note 12 second Z06 and Viper times), which means what would the GT-R do in the hands of a more skilled driver at a better track? I honestly don't think that the GT-R would be able to pick up a second or more with a better driver. The all wheel drive should be doing most of the work as far as getting the car going is concerned. But, I could be mistaken.

Lastly, the point is, the Z06 is a great car and a great value. I am not really sure it is fair to bash it or team Corvette until someone that can drive gets both cars at the same track on the same day and wrings them out.

Torque converter? Isn't the GTR a DSG style transmission?
Are you sure the launch control isn't more of a (brake) "roll control" which incorporates the rev limiter?
Nice Vid...
I know when I'm out in my buddy's GrandNational, he gets good launches around 4psi or so with his foot on the brake.....brake boost. You know, even being only RWD, he manages 1.60's 60ft times with the "lift bar" set up....
I wonder if the Z06 uses a "lift" traction type set-up to apply more downforce on the rear tires at launch??
Rear "squat" kills 60ft times and hazes tires...

I don't know why they compare 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times between the GTR, Porsche, Z06, and the Viper. That is not what, at least, the last three cars were built for. I'm waiting for someone to take them to a track and get some track numbers before I hear anyone say that the GTR is the best thing on the road and everyone else sucks.
While I'm sure this thread will go along the way of all the other GTR threads as it's performance while awsome will be downplayed on our Camaro board and then the car will be defended by those equally biased for the car.
So before that happens I'll just say the more I see the car in pictures the more it looks ok to me and from the rear angle even nice. Red is a better color for the car than silver IMO and while the nose and roof line looks a bit unfinished it has it's good angles. This was the first time seeing and hearing it in action. Again not my idea of a sports car but to each and each country their own.
One thing is for sure the performance is very good. Nissan set out with some lofty goals and seems to acheived them. They set out for a performance car first and that's certainly what they have. There is no doubt that once a GTR is unleashed to the American mags they will grab an F430, Viper, Z06/ZR1, 911 Turbo and really let them loose all at once. It will be fun.

all in all i am glad that Nissan put out a good fighter... that only tells the corvette team that they gotta keep on working hard so the Chevy family stays on top.
