Purple to Blue, complete color change

Hey guys,

I just had a complete color change on my 1995 Camaro Z28. I went from factory purple to C5 navy blue. I know that I need rims and lowering after this paint job, so lets keep the topic paint related.

Speaking of paint related, upon reassembly, I did not notice till I was home that they put the rear Z28 symbol on the wrong spot. I bought a heat gun, is there any advice on removing this?

When my buddy had some body work done on his WS6, they put the door "Trans Am" emblem on upside down. I thought it was hilarious. Him, not so amused.

I agree on wow. I was really patient with the shop because they did the color change as a side project for a more than reasonable price, not a reasonable time. Over 2 months. Then when I got home I couldn't believe it. Then they argued that was where it was because he wrote it down. Anyway, it ended with him knocking some more money off it and me having to find a way to get it back off.

Yes, we all have that friend. It is normally myself laughing, so my friends are now amused, myself, not so much.

So just heat it up, cut with fishing line? I heard just use my finger to wipe off the glue and finish it off with some kind of paint friendly tar remover compound?

You don't need heat, but it helps. Run floss in a sawing motion behind the emblem. Any adhesive that's left over you can remove with either WD-40 or rubbing alcohol. Neither will hurt the paint.

Yep, just use the line to "saw" through the adhesive. It shouldn't even be too difficult since it was just placed. Once you've removed the emblem you can use some Goo-Gone, Tarminator, WD-40, etc. to remove the leftover adhesive. Just be a little more careful on that fresh paint.

I know all about body shop drama. I'm dealing with a nightmare myself. When I took my car to this guy he told me 1.5 weeks. I figured that was a little low and banked on 3 weeks. ~4 months with my car and he was unable to finish it. I will be suing him for everything I paid him. Is it just me or are body shop guys the scum of the earth?

I don't know about scum of the earth seeing how they can accomplish something that I can not. I just find no matter how much you push, they always push the date further back. If you go in on Monday and say I need it Wednesday, they say yes, then you show up Wednesday and now they say Friday...at that point, what are you going to do?

Exactly what happened to me, except it went on for ~14 weeks. My car is still unfinished and will remain that way until either I or somebody else finishes (completely repaints) it.
