Radiator relocate mod ?'s

Okay, as you all know (maybe) I've relocated my radiator forward by cutting the core support. Its all in up in there. My question is, how to plumb it? I've got the main hoses hooked up. Lower to passenger port on pump. Upper to upper port on w/p driver side. My question is what about the port right below driver side port. My radiator (aftermarket Griffin universal) only has provisions for the upper and lower hoses and the overflow. Nothing for the lower port on the water pump or the steam pipe for the heads. Can I block off the lower port on the pump? Can I "T" the overflow port and run one to the overflow and one to the steam pipe for the heads? Anyone thats done this help a brotha out?!?!?

Im ready to fire this biatch up, but just need to make certain I can do this for my cooling system?

Thanks,

Eric :)

P.S. Its an LT1

I know for sure the steam pipes are necessary and you can't just t it into the the overflow because its on the wrong side of the radiator cap. If it were me I would take the radiator to the welder and have them cut holes and weld in aluminum fittings for your hoses. Let us know what you decide because I was considering installing a griffin universal.:)

I ran the steam line T'ed into one of the hoses for a long time and worked out fine. Also T'd the lower water pump hose into the hoses too, though i have heard you can block them off. Some water pumps on certain cars do not even have the holes.

May not be much help, but it did work for me... im changing everything when the car gets back together tho

One of the more knowledgeable members in the tech board said I could remove that pipe from the waterpump and plug the whole. Search that forum for threads started by mkent --it was within the past 2 months and will answer your question.

mkent,

Thanks for the info. I'm pobably gonna block that port off and have a steam pipe welded onto my radiator.

Thanks,

Eric

I was going to run the universial hoses summit sales, I have 2 of them if you want to buy them, there 78 bucks each new ill give you a good deal on those if you want them. they have spacers for in the fittings, I wasnt real big on that idea so I decided to take it further, Im in the middle of running true AN lines for mine

as for the return from the heads I had a fitting welded into my rad so I could put a -6 fitting in there to hook my return into.

Hey lethal93ta,

Do those provisions on the pump thread out or are they press fit in? How hard/easy is it to remove them? If you dont mind me asking how much did they charge you for the steam pipe provision and petcock on your radiator. I think Im getting raped. Theyre chargin' me $52 to add just the steam pipe provision at my local shop.

I bought the fittings from summit there only like 5 bucks for a 3/8 weld in fittings, I drilled the holes and took it to a local shop that does my tig welding, he only charged me 5 bucks to weld those fittings in there and the tabs that I have on top

the fittings on the pump will be welded on there I didnt take it in yet to be welded I need to order my cooling fans so I know if I want to cut off the stock hose ends on the rad to help my AN fittings to clear or if I can weld the fittings flush on the rad, I think I can weld them flush but i want to be sure, once I figure out my rad im going to run the pump and rad in at the same time to get welded up.

Cool. I knew I was getting raped, but what can I do. As for the stock provisions is in the pump, theyre pretty easy to remove then?

Thanks,

Eric
