Silverado sales down 29.4% over July 06

and GMC Sierra sales are off 30.7% over the same month last year despite doubling the rebate to $2000. For August (until Sept 4), GM is offering 0% for 60 months. Will that be enough to perk up full size truck sales?

The cause of this is the fire sale that was going on with the old style trucks in July of last year.

While GM has fewer actual truck units being sold at the moment, my guess is that they're also making more profit per truck, not to mention they aren't selling their soul by selling trucks to people who are buying early because of the good deals (and thus will not buy a truck later on when they would originally have at a higher price).

What concerns me is that gas prices have stabilized (for the moment anyways) so I don't think the lack of sales is due to fuel concerns at the moment.

I wonder if that many people just don't like the bodystyle?

On the other hand, Dodge is all but GIVING their trucks away right now, and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

A rough month for most auto cos.

Chevy sold 46,997 Silverados last month compared to 56,488 F-150s (down 18.1%), and 29,312 Dodge Rams (down 10.6%). Year to date Silverados are down 6.7% (357,893), F-150s are down 12.2% (411,926) and Rams are only down 0.6% (214,569). The Tundra sold 23,150 units in July 07 which is an increase of 125% over July 06 and 105,990 YTD, which is a 56.5% increase. I think people realize that $3/gal gas is here to stay and its tough to buy a new truck rated at 14mpg city and 20mpg highway unless you REALLY need a truck. Toyota has been offering 0% for 60 months on the new Tundra and Ford is also, I believe. It will be interesting to see GMs August sales with the same deal on trucks.
Just a blip in sales? GM YTD overall (US) light vehicle sales are down 9.4%, Ford YTD sales are down 12.2% and Toyotas YTD is up 6.1%. In a month where total US market sales were down 12.3%, Nissan was the only gainer (+1.7%) with companies that have at least 3% of market share.
