MPH gain with a 150 shot?

I was originally considering running a blower on my 93' Z/28, but after doing a lot of reading, I am going with a nitrous kit. I think the 10.4 to 1 compression LT1 does not like boost anyway.

So I am wondering, "on the average" how much I will pick up in mph? I went 13.5 @ 105 in less than ideal conditions. I have also added a 2400 stall converter. I plan on using a wet kit, Mallory box, a 255lph pump, and plugs a step colder. Is the recommended jetting reliable with most kits? Or is a wideband tune manditory?
The rule of thumb on my Mustangs was usually 7-8 mph with a 75 shot, and 13-15 mph with a 150. Am I on the right track?

There are quite a few variables. Assuming your car is in good running condition, then those gains should be pretty typical with a 150 shot.

Regarding the jetting, it is usually a starting point. Don't regard the jetting in the card with the kit as the gospel. I'd put it on a wideband to double check before going all out just to be sure. Better safe than sorry.

I say this because for the 100 shot I'm running on my car, I actually had to run the fuel jet for a 150 shot and the nitrous jet for a 100 shot because it was leaning out too much. Granted it is most likely due to my tired factory fuel pump, but it is fuel for thought. Also take note of the suggested jetting in relation to the bottle pressure.

Sounds like you're going about it correctly. Only other suggestion is to get some rubber to be able to put the power to the pavement. Be careful, the bottle is addictive

21mph but that was on a stock 305 engine...hehe

100 shot neeted me 17 mph!

12-15mph would be healthy IMHO.

My car ran great with NX's jetting but there is usually power to be had with tuning. Learning to read the plugs will allow you to get the timing and fuel set correctly. A lot of guys like this write up for nitrous plug reading over at yellowbullet.com

Goodluck and I hope you have some ET whatever tires for that. Converter+Spray= if it hooks!

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a used dry Zex kit. I will probably keep it in the 75-100 hp range, so I guess it should serve me well.

Nitrous is VERY addictive, I said the same thing you did. Then I went from 100 to 150 and now 200 This past friday at a test-n-tune the car did the numbers below:

1.79 60ft (motor only)
12.73 @ 105.73

1.62 60ft (200 shot)
10.94 @ 125.08

I definitely recommend you take it to a dyno to check your AFR. I had the car dynoed a couple of weeks ago with the 200 and my AFR was 11.7 and dropping through out the rpm's and it was not detonating.

11.7 sounds nice and fat. That should keep knock away? I used to run my blower cars around 11.8-12.0.

Ijust found a old dyno sheet.

Last year, I drove my bolt-on firebird 80 miles to norwalk raceway park. It went (n/a) 103-104 mph @ 12:80ish (heat soaked). I then ran with my 'nitrous works' wet plate kit with the recomended jetting set for 150. At 950#s bottle pressure and 42 psi rail pressure, I went 11:63 @ 117.92. Then drove home with no problems, All on drag radials. 1 year later I'm still on the stock bottom end. I am hooked on nitrous. If it's set up properly, it seems reasonably reliable.

Nick, Have you ever been to Scarletts in Toledo?

I have heard that Norwalk hooks like fly paper. I imagine it has to if you got a 1.7 60 foot on drag radials. My 60 foots were 2.1's with an auto, stock converter, and 275 Nitto drags at the craphole known as Lapeer dragway.

Scarletts?.... More than once! Norwalk is very sticky. Milan is closer to you and me. ever tried them? It usually hooks pretty good also. BTW If you're ever in toledo on friday or saturday nights, theres lots of fast cars cruising up and down alexis rd.
