**URGENT** Rear black plastic fuel line damaged...

Today in the rain, I ran over something and I couldn't avoid it. It ended up tearing the black plastic fuel line. The one that goes into the fuel filter. Fuel is currently leaking on my driveway, luckily it's raining. But unlucky as it's dark and wet to fix right now. Is there anyway I can fix this w/o having to remove the fuel tank? Do places like Checker or Autozone sell replacement fuel lines?

Can I do a hose clamp type thing? No flames.

I doubt Autozone would have something like that, looks like a dealer item. Its been a while since my fuel pump change, but if I remember right, you dont have to remove the tank. However, you will probably have to drop it a little to access the quick-connect fitting on the fuel pump.

Follow that line up towards the top of the tank. There will be a piece of insulation or something taped over it and the other lines running over the top of the tank. There is also a plastic retainer (if I remember right) holding down all the hoses. You need to remove these, then you can disconnect and remove that fuel line. Removing the pump is not necessary, it's just a tight fit up there.

I'm not sure what kind of clamp you are talking about, but it's just a plastic line and probably won't clamp well, if at all. Have the dealer look up the part number for you (their system is great). Don't quote me on this, but the part number I get is 1251314. But that part number points to a couple of the fuel lines, so I'm not sure. Good luck with that! :thumb:

I'm willing to bet you could cut back the damaged plastic fuel line, heat up a barb-fitting (like used in Vortech Supercharger Kits) and simply press it into the plastic line. Then run new fuel line from the new fitting to the filter.

OR

Get two fittings and press the other one into the other part of plastic fuel line, to retain the stock quick release at the filter. Then just bridge the 2 new fittings with some new high quality fuel line.

This is the only option I'd try other than getting a whole new line. I don't have my Vortech manual handy, or I'd post what exact size/type of barb-fitting you need to fit in our stock lines. Hopefully someone else will post it.

I assume the "hose clamp" fix was to fit a piece of split rubber hose over the hole and clamp it like a saddle patch. If it's a small hole that will work but I'd try an industrial supply house first. There are fittings for moderate pressure polyethylene/butene pneumatic/hydralulic lines that would allow you to "replace" the hole with a union or splice in a replacement section. Tell the counterman that it's for gasoline service and what you have to do and he should be able to help.

The barbed peice is specified for fuel lines. Don't worry, I saw what gas does to a little plastic cup and I didn't want parts melting away after a few minutes.
