00GT vs. 05-06 GTO!!

Well tonight I was checking out the beach and a guy and his friend were in a newer GTO, and popped out right behind me from what appeared to be no where. I turned onto my road which was up ahead and was still being tailed by the goat.

I thought for a few moments, said what the hell and passed my house and gave a hand gesture to get on the parkway which is a few hundred feet past my place. We proceeded to line up next to each other at about 40 and he honked it off. On three (I was in 2nd) I jumped a instant fender and pulled about a car into the top of 3rd and then came me missing my G** D**M 4th gear while he strolled on by. I finally find the bastard and keep the margin to about a car and half back until we hit around 115 or so.

His buddy flips me off even after I admited to him good win. (He said your car is pretty fast) So I tried to coax him into another run by dropping a gear and blipping the throttle a few times. He instead of counting it off just hit it after I started to slow down after one of my revs so I had to play catch up(I think he thought I was going). Well I was about 2 cars back and kept it that way until he let off again.

Well I give him a thumbs up and he returns the gesture. All in all I feel pretty good that my little 2v had the ***** up top.

P.S. He was auto and I'm stick.

Nope the 99-00 had the 2valve but it was a Windsor motor because there was a fire in the Romeo plant. They have 8 bolt cranks and 13/14 bolt valve covers opposed to the 6 bolt and 11bolt of the Romeo. Other than that they are the same as every other Mustang.

I dont see many GTO's around here, 45miles south of Wash. DC. I did however, during the mixing bowl detour, run into one in Arlington on RT1. We went from a stop light and I had him by half a car all the way up to 70mph til we stopped.

I was in my L98 IROC at the time. The GTO was stick and loud with one passenger. My IROC had a Hyperchip and K&N with the original L98 with 175,000 miles and just me in it. Maybe I had better reaction time but he never gained either way.

05's are 3 valves. 2 valves are ok but it takes some cash to get them moving...good runs.

As for the moving statement. Yeah my buddy has a fox that is running in the 12s so I got to play catch up now. I plan to have the gears in by Aug. and hopefully some cams before spring. I really want a supercharger on it but the wife will have to get something nice first before she would clear that one.

Nice run. Your car must be pretty strong to hang with an LS2 GTO. Stock for stock and based on factory ratings, that's a 140hp disadvantage. I don't think your mods make up for that, even taking into account the weight difference. That's one hell of a factory freak! Have you ever had it dyno'd?

I thought the same thing. I had a 94 z28 before with a 96 motor so I followed GM for quite a while. I was shocked to say the least. First time I was cool with losing, LOL. This motor was a replacement motor because the other one popped about 2 months ago. Me and a buddy swapped this one in. I got it from a auto yard so there may be more to it than I know. I hope to get it dynoed once I get a pair of cams as I will see some decent gains with that.

I have heard that the cam gears on the 4.6 can be as much as 7° out. Thats why some are runners and some are dogs. Yours doesnt sound like its too bad. Maybe the salvage yard motor is modded?? Anything is possible IMHO. My brother has a 02 GT vert and it okay for a cruiser. It wont go too fast with the 20s on it and 3.23s in the rear. Ive raced a 03 GT auto before, they move out decently. Mods will help, but blowers seem to make them come alive.

Personally, I'll stick to my Grand National.

There's no need for name calling.

I read the thread. He was asking about 2000 Mustangs, you were answering about '05s. It wasn't relevant.

Maybe 339 pounds isn't much of a difference to you, but it is to a lot of people on this board, and it's certainly enough to affect the outcome of a drag race.

I personally have beat every single stock or near stock 99-04 mustang GT I've raced. I will be hitting the dyno once I get my cams(once I decide which ones)

Edit: The driver appeared larger than I am and his passenger was at least 160. So we might be talking about at minimum 500lb advantage to me.

Me too If you look back you will see I beat a Saleen a few months back.

I don't really think its all in the car as most people cant drive and over rev the engine. There is a decent muscle car scene up here in Rochester NY and I have been able to hold my own though.

I did see that there is a twin turbo 3rd gen running around though. The turbos stick out of the hood!
