Warning- Gm factory alarms

Ok, years ago i p/u a pamphlet on GM alarms and seeing that my car had some type of alarm in it before(through removed when i bought it)id p/u one later on.Well last fall i bought #VSC3400,part no.12497740 and tried to get it installed @local stereo/alarm shop yesterday only to find out the damn thing won,t work b/c my 94 doesn,t have a body control mount and this will only work on models that do!The damn box/sheet didn,t say what yrs it fits, nothing! But what really s****** is my upper dash panel now has a visible crack and i will need another one(anyone have a used one in exc.cond?)This install shop is highly thought of and they did install my LT1 scanmaster in my dash vent,so my blame is on/GM and their lousy parts labeling. This might not be in the right forum but this forum has more exposure and hopefully saves someone from going thru this S***** experience. If i knew this alarm would,nt fit etc the shop wouldn,t have had to take dash panel apart, the panel wouldn,t have cracked, etc.BTW they didn,t charge me any labor.

I cracked my dash a while back too . When you take it out, you have to remove the windshield pillar trim, because the dash hooks under there. Check out any local junkyards for a dash. Got mine for 10 bucks

As for alarms, I've heard nothing but good things about Viper. Little hard to install yourself, but I just picked one up for my dad and he likes it.

I'd like to +1 Vipers, but add DO NOT install it yourself. The warranty, which is a lifetime warranty, is void if its not installed by a shop. I've been quoted 450-500$ to get one put in.

What your 94 doesn't have is a "body control module".

Hard to understand how breaking the dash panel when removing it is the fault of the GM alarm. Its a large sheet of plastic that's been sitting in the hot sun, soaking up UV rays for at least 13 years, and probably very brittle.

Maybe a better topic for the post would have been "Warning - GM factory dash panel".

Like i said,if i knew the damn thing wasn,t going to fit i never would have bought it! Now i have a alarm that is useless to me and i need that upper dash panel. Also i use ARMORALL on the dash, door panels to prevent the parts from cracking which goes to show GM uses the cheapest plastic possible, and i have had my 79Z28 for 23 yrs and it still has the original dash.BTW the 94 also is stored 6 mo,s in a quonset(w/car cover)and the last 5 yrs is covered when outdoors and driven mainly on weekends, and not dd.

Maybe what it really shows is that Armor All doesn't do anything besides make things look shiny
