whats the point of the friends list?

is there something to it that i don't know about, i know how to add people and ignore but what does that do?

I think if you ignore somebody you won't receive any PM's from them or something. You can also restrict PM's only to people on your friend's list. If it has any function beyond that, I can't think of it.
