Best tire (brand and size) for dragstrip?

got two sets of rims salaad shooters and 17x11 zr1's. I would prefer putting tires on the zr1 because they look better and because they are burnt off.

Here is my question/problem: What tire is the best for the dragstrip? I just put a 3600 stall in my car and I need a great tire. Dont have the cash for drag rims and tires. I had the nitto 555's on there 315/35/17, but at the strip I could not cut a time better than 2.0.

I assumed it was do to the lack of side wall.

So Im leaving it up to you. What tire (brand and Size) to buy?

thanks

pride

I like the way the 255 50 R16 M/T ET Drag Radials worked on my car mounted on the 16x8 stockers...The sidewall does make a big difference and I'm also not a big fan of adding weight to the car which is what 17x11s and a matching tire will do...Get a nice tire for the 17x11s and a set of the 255 50 R16 M/T radials for the track on the salad shooters...

thanks!!!

What air pressure are you running in those M/T? And I do have a stock rearend. I realize that its gonna go soon, and I'm planning on going back with a nice limited slip such as an eaton unit, with 3.73's.

My goal the whole time since I've been racing is to cut consistent 1.80 60'.

Is this remotely possible and safe with my setup (plus the eaton), and the MTs?

I know that a 10 bolt is gambling, but Im not trying to cut crazy 60'. My current hp and tq are 320 and 340. Even if I added a nice set of heads low 360 and high 380 is all I will have. What do you think about the rear?

I would say start around ~20 psi in the DR's? Drop by 1 or 2 psi as necessary. I don't think you need to drop to ~12 psi or anything that low .

As for the 10-bolt, you should be fine, esp. with the A4, well into the 12's. Having the ability to "brake-stall" the car on the line (pre-load the drivetrain) saves them from the harsh beatings that even stock M6's can lay on them . I wouldn't put a penny more than you HAVE TO into one, unless it's for a ratio swap, or fixing something minor (not costly).

Just my $.02 .
