Hi, A friend of mine is thinking of buying a GM 385 hp fast burn long block and I'm looking for anyone with experience/info on this motor such as dyno proven horespower, performance, or anything you could tell me about it.

A friend of mine has one, with the H.O.T. cam and roller rockers. In his '79 4 door cutlass he runs 12.9x - 13.0x @ 107mph on street tires with a 2.0x 60'. 3.42:1 gears, TH350 tranny, Holley 650, MSD ignition and wires. It weighs ~3200lbs with the driver. The track is about a dozen feet above sea-level and the temperature during racing season is usually around 20 degrees, give or take. (celcius)

He made one run with a 150 shot of nitrous, spraying just second and third gear, with the juice cutting out at around 1000 feet and ran a 12.1 at 112.

Um... I think that was a 383 they did that with. The 385 hp long block this guy is asking about is a 350. They did that with GM's 383 shortblock. They had ported Fast Burn heads, and a roller cam with something along the lines of 230/234 duration @ .050 and .520/.530 lift or something like that. That's not exact, but it's close. And yes, it made 530 hp.

When you put "fwhp" at first I thought "front wheel horsepower," but then realized it was flywheel. Just say "hp" and everyone pretty much knows it's flywheel. "rwhp" is rear wheel, and "fwhp" is front wheel. Or maybe it's just me, and I know too many people with imports...

I agree with the hp thing. ;)

The fast burn is not a 383 which would be why the hp is higher.

Mine is 430 crank but Iwill know when I dyno it next week with my buddy on here. AKA Erik AKA Moderator with a '80 Camaro.

He just put his in.
