Cobra T/A predictions
The '98 has a 305hp rated DOHC 4.6 - the '99-up cars are rated for slightly more horsepower, but Ford was shamed into recalling them and throwing on a few parts (don't recall what parts) to add some muscle. Owners of the '99-up cars were complaining that the cars weren't living up to their HP rating.
Anyways, stock vs. stock, an early DOHC Cobra ('96-'98) is a good match for an LT1, and a late DOHC Cobra ('99-up) with the dealer improvements can run with LS1's. It comes down to mods, driving abilities, and vehicle options (conv. vs. hardtop, manual vs. auto, etc.)

But from what I recall from reading the car mags back when these cars were new, they were a reasonably good match for each other in a drag race.
Ya, I know they wouldn't agree, but thats been my experience. I also know there are some quick ones out there too.
98 Cobra is about 265 to the wheels. The fact that is is a convertible hurts a lot. I would say a 5spd coupe is between an LT1 and an LS1 with a good driver.
A 6spd LS1 would kill any pre-03 Cobra or Mach I assuming equal drivers, but the Mach would be the closest of the bunch.
