95 z28 project

Well I think most of these questions might have been answered, but I have had trouble consolidating them. My camaro has a ton of miles on the stock engine. I have decided it is time to make power. I would like around 400 horsepower off of engine only N/A. NO Nitrous (even though I know that would be an easy fix). I am trying to decide between dropping in a LS1 or rebuilding the current engine. I think the current one is in good shape, but there has to be wear and tear at 210K miles. When I do the engine I a will do exhaust, probably slp long tubes with a magnaflow catback system cause I like the sound but this might not be the best idea. I have roughly $6K to spend in current budget. Are there any practical ideas for the engine situation and where are the best crate engines for purchase on the internet. Is it possible to get a ls1 with cam package from a crate engine store? Put it this way, I have no idea where to start, but as my questions get more specific I will post them. Just seeing if anyone was willing to drop an opinion about the engine, rebuild or crate, and if crate what types. Keep in mind, as most others say, needs to be street legal and relatively comfortable at idle and so on.

What brought this on is that I rode in my buddy’s infinity g35 that he put a new flywheel in, he had several other mods done to the engine but no sc or turbo. But the car caught gears so tight and when he accelerated, you could hardly move. Then I got in the camaro and determined it was insufficient and I have the money to change it but am lacking a little of the knowledge. Helpful Advice???? I will keep reading the forums trying to learn more but like I said. It is hard to get all the information I need specifically.

PS when people are taking about headers and exhaust, what is LID? Haven’t been able to solve that one yet. Question is vague, but it is really engine option advice trying to get to 400 rwhp. Thanks

Google GM Performance Parts and check out their catalog. Check out the LS 364 = Base Corvette engine with a carburetor instead of EFI. This would eliminate the need for a PCM swap. It's around $5000, but not bad for the technology and the fact you could probably get at least 100k out of the motor.
