How to Fix Stall Wall?

I'm running into the stall wall issue with my car, just what exactly I had to do to fix the stuff as far as tuning goes?

I do a burnout in my car on the street or at the track and then try to launch it the car will refuse to shift into 2nd until I let off. I will let off and resume throttle but then the transmission will lock out either 1st or 2nd gear until I turn off the car and wait a min then everything will work perfect again.

it never did this until I put in the convertor, and was there on my original trans build and still here with the new one, so I'm pretty sure it's stall wall.

I have been told that OBD2 PCMs do not have this problem, but I haven't verified it, because my car doesn't have a high enough stall converter ;-). If that is true, you could convert your car to use an OBD2 PCM to get rid of this problem. Send me a PM and I can get you in contact with the guy that told me about it.

Do you have the latest version of TC for OBD1? That is the place to start. If you do a search you will find a ton of discussion on the subject. Most will in a round about way point you in the direction you need to go. I believe that I've even given out the "secret" once or twice. If you still need help PM me.

I am not a pro tuner. But I beleave the constant table "Vss Diagnostic Enable Min RPM" should be set to exceed the RPM that your stall engages.

I've never understood why the fix for this is considered such a secret. Care to explain why?

Look two posts above yours. It's not a secret anymore:eek: Actually I don't know why it's considered "taboo" to tell people to go into the constant table "VSS Diagnostic Enable Min RPM" and set it higher than the converter RPM. I asked about 6 months ago and got someone mad at me for asking. I was told that there is enough info out for me to figure it out.
So now everyone who needs to know will know now.:D

BTW it still does not always work ;)Ellis, that's the only one that would work on mine. I guess for him, it's worth a try.

I had this problem as well because on the cold and hot modes for my kickdown(WOT) tables were set to shift at an unreasonably high speed/RPM from 1->2.
Might check that as well.
