under car pics

i see all the posts about LCA's, panhard bars and such. i am not real familiar with all the suspension parts of the car and where eveything ties together. all i know is i have been on boats that handle better than my car sometimes. i know about shocks and springs, but the other i don't. does anyone have any pics or even drawings of a stock f body undercarriage with things labled so i can learn these things and where to find them? thanks for any help. mike

I haven't forgot about you. If weather's good tommorrow and the Giants aren't on TV, I need to put in a new ABS sensor on top of the pumpkin, so I'll get your pics of SFCs when Skull-1 is in the air. Plus I just got a new 5mp digital camera.

Suspension sites useually have pictures of the product they sell on a car. So go around and check UMI, BMR, Spohn, and other suspension sites to get a good idea of what your looking at. Also most aftermarket suspension pieces are powdercoated red so they stand out a bit.

Here's a thread where I tried to explain the functions of the various components, and include pictures. Unfortunately, that was so long ago that the photo links need to be updated. I'll update them tomorrow. In the meantime, maybe the descriptions of the parts and their functions will help. Keep in mind that my interest is more in "straight line" traction, and the comments may not be applicable to situations aimed at improved road manners and cornering capabilities.

thanks for the write up fred. lots of good info. i don't auto cross nor do i go to the track with mine. i just like spirited driving. i like to pull hard in a straight line from time to time and i like to snake through a curvy road. it is not my daily driver so i just have fun with it. thanks again.
