Anyone heard of this intake? Any idea about it?

I saw this one on eBay. For the price I considered getting it to try it out and post back my opinion and my shops opinion. For what the LS6 intakes are going for I could easily resell it or just give it to my brother who's got an LS1 intake.

What do you guys think of it?

I didn't do a search because I'm not even sure of what make it is. I'm also wondering about the throttle body for it. It says 85mm but where do I get one and what is the stock tb opening?

It's a weiand polished manifold.

they are cheap knockoffs from china or something like that....the concensus is that they are a waste of money.

stock maf is 75mm

I figured out from ls1tech that it's a Typhoon Intake made by Professional Products. There is over 15 pages worth of posts about these in two threads that I found and from the dyno graph, compared to the LS6 it was just about the same. I read some good and some bad and that there were some design flaws with it at first but that they have been addressed. The people from Professional Products and BYUNSPEED (byunspeed.com) that sells them are both on the ls1tech.com site. We've been trying to get my brother in law an LS6 Intake but the last couple on eBay have gone for over $350. I think I'm going to sell him mine and give this one a shot. If it doesn't work out I'll just add more power and get a Fast 90/90 like my shop recommended I spring for. I plan on buying his (my mechanic) former ST Turbo setup from him and putting on my car next winter since he went to a custom Turbo setup. I'll post up what we think about it over here when it's done. I'm just very curious now after spending 2+ hours reading posts about it on ls1tech.com. I may end up referencing this post and saying what a waste of money but then again it might work out. Consider me a guinea pig for CamaroZ28.com. ;)

The only nice thing about the PP intake is the larger TB openings. Other than that, it is pretty much the same as a Weiand/Holley... I'd rather save the money for a FAST set-up.

I'd rather have a stock LS6 intake manifold.

I just purchased it. Intake, 85mm tb, and fuel regulator (because I have a 98) .. $673 shipped to Buffalo, NY. In my opinion that's a smokin deal if it's comparable to the others. I would have had to get the fuel regulator anyway from what I've read so really it's a $600 package. I can sell my intake to my brother for $350 and now I don't need to get my tb ported$ $75 so that's $425 towards the $600, $175 to try it out and see how I like it. Sounds good to me. Like I said, to me it's only $175 more than what I have invested and would have spent and if it doesn't work the way I want, Fast 90/90 might be the way I go.

Interesting, but your math doesn't work out.

It only costs you $175 if you keep it.

However, if you end up getting rid of it, you'll have to pay full price for a Fast 90/90, and you can't apply any of the $425 towards that purchase. You can sell this manifold, but you'll be out any money lost in the transaction (i.e. you typically can't sell it for as much as you paid for it).

And if people are paying attention, they'll figure out that it didn't work for you, and they'll be smart enough not to buy it.

:)

If it doesn't work I wouldn't resell it anyway. I hate the idea of screwing someone and I can't live with myself if I do. If I get a part and it's a piece of crap, I hang it on the wall of the garage as a reminder to myself that it was a piece of crap but looked nice or else I'll just give it away if someone wants to try it and if it works for them and they want to give me something for it if it works for them then fine, if not then no big deal. We are on the hunt for another LS6 intake anyway for my brother so he's paying for the one I have so I'll still have $673 invested in this, by the $175 I meant it's only that much more than what I already have invested, not really $175 total. I wasn't completely sure about the LS6 intake when I got it and was contemplating the Fast 90/90 because of future plans but it's just too damn expensive at this point. :) I like getting things and trying them out even if it's costs me some money just so I can give an opinion on how it works. We have a local fbody club here and we like to get things and compare. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. I can't give an opinion one way or another about this setup yet. I'm very open minded and I read all the posts I can find about them so I know it may not be the best investment but based on the posts it also might be a great investment. Time will tell. :)

Well you know its not going to give you the same results as the Fast 90/90 so if you decide to get rid of it, you can give it to me instead of hanging it on the wall of your garage:D since i dont even have a ls6 intake. jk. I think it will be about the same as a ls6 intake maybe 5-10 more horse do to bigger TB but you prolly wont feel it. Awesome you are checking it out though. I bet it will make the underhood look nice for car show.

If it turns out no power increase and you upgrade, I'll buy it from you for whatever you want to sell it for, unless you're set on hanging it on the wall haha

I'll make an honest opinion of it and I'll get the shop to dyno it before and after it goes on to see if it does what it claims. I'm very curious to see how it performs.

Update.

Got the intake, fuel rail kit and regulator (since I have a 98). It looks really nice. My shop was pretty impressed with it. He's going to do some cleanup of the ports because there is some casting slag in a few areas. Nothing major and he said maybe 1/2 hour tops. Only thing that sucks though so far is I ordered the throttle body from byunspeed.com on 11/17 and after inquiring today about it I find out that they don't even have them. They said hopefully next week or end of month for sure. WTF. I'm a very patient person but if a company doesn't have an item they should at least tell you that they don't before you wait two weeks and wonder where the hell it is. I was going to get all my Christmas wish list items from them and was showing my wife how to buy stuff through them yesterday and I'm glad we didn't because who knows if they have that stuff in stock or if I'd get it by Christmas anyway. Bad experience and for me it only takes one time before I decide not to deal with them again. There are plenty of places to get stuff online. Don't know if anyone else has dealt with them but what a pain in the ass.

Sorry for the rant, it just ticked me off and it just happened so I'm still pissed about it.

I just cancelled my order. WTF. I bought it 11/17 and the price was $251. Obviously when I ordered it they didn't have it in stock. Well, they still don't have it in stock and the price is now $176. It went down almost $75 and they still don't have them. I had to tripple check the part number to make sure I was seeing what I was believing. Why would a company lower the price of an item they don't have in stock but not update the fact that its not in stock?? Makes me wonder if they stock anything or if they just put that they sell everything online and then order from the manufacturer when someone orders from them. Something isn't right, I'm not bashing, just stating my opinion and that I will never do business with them in the future. Now lets see how hard it is to get my money back from them.

Just go with a LS6 now. Screw the FAST 90/90 like people love recommending...it'd do you no good on a stock motor.

LS6 will be just fine.

Forgot to update it .. to summarize the intake .. it's a piece of crap.

It doesn't seal to the block, some of the bolt holes didn't even lign up with the block. We ended up with three PP intakes on three different LS1's. Two of them on two engines and did lign up but wouldn't seal. The third the bolt holes didn't even lign up and it didn't seal. I've now got a hunk of aluminium that's I'm going to hang of my wall of parts that don't work in the shop.

Here's an update. LS6 for bolt-ons/cam-only and a FAST 90/90 for heads/cam+. Those are the only pieces you ever need to worry about.

^ yeah...

Seen a few results of the Typhoon and they were minimal to no gains...If you're going to mod your car, get the FAST 90mm...If you're bolt on, just keep your LS6 if you have one...
