Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
I Have Purchased A Mc Cloud Clutch For 700.00 And Put It In My Car Twice Each Time They Last Enough To Break In Then When You Race It The Clutch Shreds Like Confetti Paper And They Do Not Wanna Warranty It For Anything I Had To Threaten To Get A Lawyer Before They Replaced It With The Second One And Now Its Shreded ...just A Lil Heads Up For You Guys
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
i coulda told you that. my neighbor has a 97 TA and went through 4. on the 4th he sold it outright and put in a lt4 clutch. still not satisfied he went with zoom. they're the only aftermarket company that produces their own pressure plate...not reusing the stock or lt4 setup.
also, a 4.6 mustang destroyed one...had shreds of fibers in his bellhousing. he also went through about 3 units before switching to another brand. centerforce isnt much better though.
once i get my setup i'm going with the zoom double clutch setup or their high end single. i'm not sure and will depend on how much money i'm willing to throw at it when i get the tranny.

Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
Both me and my friend have ~500rwhp on our single disks and they are holding fine. You're either pushing way too much power, or messing up on the instal somehow.
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
I dont see him having too much power. The best street car clutch in the wrold isnt going to hold up to side stepping off a rev limitir. It might for a while, but think of the force your putting that thing under. Get a street twin and call it a day.
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
You spent $700 for a single disc Mcleod? Wow! Anyway, my Mcleod single is fine. I did have to send the first one back because is was too thick to function properly. Great customer service on replacing though.
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
ive had it installed professionally by a speed shop here in my neighborhood with a great repuation but they can still mess up i suppose but i grew up with centerforce and everybody says they suck now ....so im just lost ....what can i do?
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
Like they said. Buy the steet twin.
Customer service is 110% over there and from what I hear the twin is the best clutch you can possible buy and on top of that it is the most streetable of all the high end clutches! It is the best of both worlds.

Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
you can get zoom from summit or jegs. they have 3 clutches, 2 singles and a double. of course the double is the best but the singles are great for NA cars and cars with under 600 tq. i'm still going with the double though...i'll sooner or later be over that mark and i'll be prep'd when i do it.
Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
I posted this in another thread: If you have managed to burn out two Street Twins in 6mos you either installed them wrong or are just hell on a clutch. My first one lasted ~15,000 miles with a 4,000lb car and over 800rwhp. The usage included probably 75 1/4 miles passes with sticky tires and a prepped surface.
As it turns out, it wasn't a Street Twin. So, his title is misleading as it refers generically to McLeod clutches. I also still suspect abuse or incorrect installation. Anyway, the ST is a great product. Too bad McLeod got bought out. I suspect they will go downhill. Used to be if you called, you might get the "old man" himself.

Re: Do Not Buy A Mc Cleod Clutch!!!!!!
I run the mcleod single disk kevlar unit. The clutch is tough and holds up well. It will chatter a little on take off if you are in traffic and it gets hot, but that is the norm with kevlar. Sounds like something is going on with your install
