I have a trophy here that I got for winning a local SPL contest. Meter read 145.3. At the time I was running a single Image Dynamics IDMax in a medium size ported box. It was powered by a Xtant 1001DX. It was more bass than I really wanted in a daily driver so I stepped down to a Zapco 500.1. It is not near as loud but still might be on the verge of 140. I have built quite a few camaro/firebirds with Kicker gear that are in the 140's. I think if you build a good ported box, use two quality 12's and at least 1000 watts 140's is doable.

Have you know anyone to hit 140 with a dual or triple sub set up in a sealed box? With the space limitations how did you port the box?

Off the front windshield I hit 150.? This was many years ago. I have 4 Comp VR 12" in a sealed box, bridged. I am running a Kicker ZR-600 amp putting out ~900 watts. Pics are on my site if it is working.

Ricky....how many cubic feet was that sub box? Is each one sealed off from the others? Did you have any dynomat?

The largest box I have had in mine is roughly 5.5 cuft internal space ported. It had three PBX 12s off two soundstream 501\ strapped. Can be seen a Hi-tekcaraudio.com in the install section. I later switched to a single Solo X in 3 ft ported off a Kicker KX2500.1. Thats the loudest shystem I have had so far. I never got it metered though. You can get pretty good airspace in the well and on the package area without removing the plastic side pieces.

Sorry I do not remmeber the specs of the box. It basically is as tall as the back seat and goes down into the hatch area. My box is filled with polyfill which I bought at jo-ann fabrics (they call it pillow stuffing :) ). Much cheaper and works just as well. The box is sealed side to side, meaning that the 2 speakers on each side are in the same box. I built a partition into the box to help with the sound. I had originally planned to port the box, but changed my mine when I switched from 4 regular Kicker Comps to the VR series. The reason mine hit so hard off the windshield is because the box is angled and the sound travels like a big arc to the front of the car. I have tried to put the mic directly over the subs (in outlaw class) in other competions and have hit less dbs so I stick with the off the windshield method.

Also my car has no dynamat or any other sound fill except in the box.
