Cigarette lighter removal

Is there a safe way to take off the plastic lighter faceplate without breaking it or anything? I want to mount fan switch under it.

Anyway, yeah, reach behind the console and shove your hand up toward the cig lighter and run your fingers around the top and bottom, there are 4 tabs (2 on top, 2 on bottom) just push them down or up and it'll pop out. From there, unscrew the lighter hardware and drill your hole.
