I'm getting rid of my 2 12" JL12w6's and getting a 10" stealthbox--don't know which brand yet. The 2 12's were just way too much bass for me.
What is going to be the best sub for that box?
-I want the sub to be loud but it doesn't need to cause hearing damage.
-I'd like some good midbass
-I prefer SQ over SPL but I'd like a combination of both if possible

Yep, and "Lower end" does not mean "Low" in this case.....just that ED makes some really nice stuff, and this is the entry level sub.

I was going to say the same sub actually, or like a K2.

Get another JL. Once you've had them, you won't be happy with most other products else in terms of SQ.
There are a few brands that hold their own against JL... but not many.

ED is one.
Lemme just say that the one in my car is perfect with 250Wrms of Alpine amp.
With minimal gain setting, the SQ is great for my varied music collection. Its not the whole car rattling BS, but a nice lower end that fills out music. Crank the gain, and here comes the car rattling.

JL is not an end-all-be-all of SQ, i'm sorry to burst your bubble, but there are a LOT better speakers out there than JL; they are just rarely heard of except in the audiophile world...
Just to name a few:
Adire
Resonant Engineering
ID MAX
Elemental Designs

Im kinda in the same boat as you KillerTA.
Im thinking about removing my 2 jlw3s and replacing them with 2 stealthboxes that hold a 10" sub.
I have been searching around the net trying to find the prefect sub for a good SQ application.
I havent totally made up my mind as of yet. But im leaning toward the TC Sounds 10" TC1000s. http://www.tcsounds.com/tc1000.htm

Usually subs sound better when they are in the correct box...having said that I would get a subthump box, they even recommend what subs sound best in them.

absolutely right, and if i could add to the mix: treo, digital design maybe even a matts speaker if done right. jl is ok as 97Formula said but you can really buy a much better setup for the same amount of money. maybe even look into getting different amps a zapco or audison if you really want an SQ setup :)

I know JL isn't the the best. They are, however, very good, and will satisfy pretty much anyone's SQ desires in a small listening environment, especially when said environment is also filled with background noise from tires, wind, and exhaust. :)
What I was trying to say is that if you've had a set of JL subs and you care at all about SQ, you won't be happy with any of the other mainstream brands (MTX, Kicker, Pioneer, etc). I've been pretty pleased with Rockford Fosgate, but JLs are still better.
I have heard of those other brands, but I didn't know their reputations for SQ (except Elemental Designs). I don't follow the market very closely lately, as I have no money to spend. :( How do those brands stack up in terms of price? I know JLs are a little expensive compared to the brands we've all heard of, but I feel like they're worth it.

The top-end Adire Brahma (MKIII now I believe) runs about $400 legally (No other way to get them) which is comparable to the W7 which is about 2X the price.
I'm running a pair of MKII Brahma 10's and they are amazing to say the least.
