Re: Ford recalls 1.2million trucks/vans

5 million total recalls with at least 1200 reported incidents of fires caused by the defect. Ouch.

I guess that 1200 fires among 5 million cars is what Ford calls "rare."

Seems pretty rare to me.

You have an extra zero in there.. it's
0.024%

World War II 'only' resulted in the death of 0.2% of the US population at the time.

Knew this was coming, though. They can't get rid of that cruise control / brake issue quickly enough. No question a recall is necessary and the right thing in this case.

I bet the engineers who signed off on that design years back feel just SWELL these days.

*sigh*

I believe it is a Texas Instruments part. Ford has been recalling in steady numbers as supplies of the new part to fix comes in, there were not enough to do all at once.

The right thing to do would have been to recall every damn one of them at the first sign of trouble, instead of parsing the recall into several "smaller" campaigns. If I'm not mistaken, that might have saved a few lives

Whoever approved of supplying power to that switch with an unfused feed deserves to go to jail. I'm sorry, but that's gross negligence, plain and simple.
