Ultra_Dog 07-27-2006, 06:39 PM I have gone through three key fobs and they are the flimisiest pieces of junk ever made.
Within about 100 uses, the "open door" button ceases to work. I open it up, replace batteries, and clean the contacts. It works for a while, then flakes out again. This has happened to both of my original key fobs and my $45 replacment unit within a month or two.
My truck (Nissan) has a key fob and it works exactly like it did when it was new 5 years ago.
Is there some secret to keeping them operational? It seems to be a contact issue. Of course, the only defective part seems to be the rubber button piece, as the circuit board isn't actually decaying or breaking.
2001NBMZ28 07-27-2006, 07:02 PM Dunno - been using the same key fob for almost 6 years now without any problems.
shoebox 07-27-2006, 07:50 PM First I have ever heard of them being a weak point.
97TransAm 07-27-2006, 10:02 PM  I have both original fobs with 75k on them for my 97. The "un" on the unlock button is worn off. Other than that, we're talking almost ten years...
Special_Z28 07-27-2006, 11:42 PM when I got my 94 V6 about 5 years ago i bought one off ebay for 10 bucks, then when i got my Z28 i programed it for this car, and it seems to have a short, or just a dying keyless entry receiver box in the car, i have to hold the key fob a certain way, or press the 'lock' then unlock button several times for it to work. I believe its just my box, instead of my fob though, seeing as how its worked for years on the other car. So it could be your keyless entry receiver, just a thought.
Šenial™ 07-28-2006, 12:33 AM excuse me for asking, but what exactly does "fob" stand for

It's a noun.
A fob is a chain used to secure a pocket watch to an article of clothing, or any ornament that hangs from such a chain. This includes items hanging off a keychain. The term is also used when referring to electronic security key devices.
Šenial™ 07-28-2006, 02:13 AM Im still kind of confused, lol are you talking about the plastic remote with all the buttons on it for the car alarm stuff, are you referring to that as a "fob"

...
Somewhere on this site there is an explanation of why some people's dates are like that.
19z28camaro02 07-29-2006, 03:28 PM ok, i had a similar problem. SOLUTION, EMLER'S GLUE. put a dab of glue on the non-contact side, push the battery firmly into position, reprogram, and viola
