After fighting two different exhaust shops to install it, this one finally did. I was excited, got her home and took a peek. This is what I saw.
Clearance issues anyone? I haven't snapped the flange off yet, I've only driven highway with it on, from the shop home. Spec-****ing-tacular. The dolts put it way too far down the pipe, so the flange can't just be rotated up into the little cubby under the seat. Hurray for them. I specifically told them that the motor/plate should sit up under the rear seat and the pipe should be as close to parallel as possible. I guess I have to go back and get it fixed, I don't see how this is going to work.
By the way, the cutout sounds awesome.
Blue89Bird 07-03-2006, 05:47 PM how do you not notice that when you goto pick it up...did you not even look at it?
pcgamer4life 07-03-2006, 06:06 PM No, I didn't look at it before I left. I called back and they said to bring it in on wednesday and they'd look at it, they guy said that was virtually the "only place he could put it..." my ass.
2000GTP 07-03-2006, 06:07 PM Talk about reduced ground clearance.. When I had a local exhaust shop weld in my cats, I watched them like a hawk. I could tell they were a little aggravated, but its my car and I'm paying a good buck to have a job done, so I want it done to my expectations.
hollywoodZ28 07-04-2006, 12:31 PM I totally understand wanting to watch the guys at the shop!! I have had to resort in sneaking up on the shop several different times during the day, so that they would understand this guy can come in at any moment un announced so lets not screw around.
Nothing more frustrating then spending your hard earned dollars with so called professional repair shops, and getting your car back as if it were worked on by a bilnd crackhead!
I have been very close to blows with some shop managers and mechanics, not that I am one of those types who looks for trouble but there is only so much time and money you can waste, and then have your intelligence insulted by these shop guys who say "if you know so much then fix it yourself!"
94Z28WP 07-04-2006, 01:31 PM You're lucky you didn't rip that thing apart driving home... Should have checked it before you left the shop... I go to a little Mom & Pop type muffler shop to have exhaust stuff welded... I had new tips welded on and the guy was out there with a measuring tape trying to get it exact.
Cerwin Vega Fan 07-04-2006, 11:46 PM Good god, I could put a body kit on my car, give my car a 2 inch drop, and I think my clearance would still be better then yours.
FrankTA 07-05-2006, 03:52 AM Fortunately, the muffler shop I go to, they allow you to stand right behind the car (outside the bay) so you can watch and comment if necessary.
jsetzer 07-05-2006, 10:56 AM My muffler shop I stand under the car while they are working on stuff. Hell I help hold stuff when I can.
They have changed my setup a dozen times, so they know me fairly well.
Go back and make them fix it. Congrats on the new sound.
95nicotineZ 07-05-2006, 10:18 PM I do the same thing. I watch them through the whole process, and actually do some of the work myself. The have a bender that will do 4" pipe! Hmmm... True duals? They just laugh at me or ask me how much cash I have... we'll see.
Klypto 07-05-2006, 10:39 PM yea, i was under my car when they did mine... told him exactly where to put it, and what angle...
was great.

pcgamer4life 07-07-2006, 02:09 AM Had it fixed today, much better, the switch works fine, though I'd rather use a DPDT toggle switch, I'll look into that.
Sounds amazing, pics tomorrow.
fredmr39 07-08-2006, 02:54 PM Yea you really have to watch some of these shops -- the only one I never paid attention to was FLP when I had to go there for some welding a couple of times (and to get a new I pipe made). I got my cutout welded in somewhere else (still a full performance shop) though and the welder was really wanting to know if I agreed with his thinking - he had me under the car showing me where he had planned to cut the slot for it, then he angled it down until it would cause a greater loss of clearance (in other words, he turned it down slightly so it was a little less than the lowest point on the car - which was my header to y-pipe clamps).
2QUIK6 07-08-2006, 03:13 PM as if it were worked on by a bilnd crackhead!
About 50% of them are! I absolutely do not let anyone do any work to my cars unless its absolutely necessary or if its one of the only people I trust. My last experience with a muffler shop has made me want to invest in a 3" pipe bender so I never have to go back. I think I could have dome a better job on my true duals the first time out than this guy did and he was recommended off this board as he had done several over the axles.
I've met a few of the manufactures and vendors of various parts for my cars and sure was not impressed by some of them....pretty scarey some of these people. Others are great standup people.
