friends firebirds making noises from headlight

When he closes his headlights on his 98 t/a, it makes this really loud grinding noise of a few seconds than stops. I tapped on that headlight and the other one, and it sounds like something is loose. Think this is that problem with the headlight gears? Also, if he hits lock or unlock on his keyless remote, his headlights will go up, then down and make this grinding noise. Maybe he will chime in sometime, but hes at my house right now. He posts as UsefulIdiot on here.

Gears in his headlight motors are bad.
