Hypereutectic aluminum pistons and nitrous.....safe?
Hypereutectic aluminum pistons and nitrous.....safe?
I was just wondering if some of you guru's out there could tell me if it would be safe to put a 125 shot on a motor with Eagle crank/rods with Keith Black Hypereutectic aluminum pistons? I wouldnt spray it more than about once a week at the track. Will this hold up? Am i asking for trouble spraying this motor without forged pistons? Any input is appreciated. Thanks
Re: Hypereutectic aluminum pistons and nitrous.....safe?
I had a 350 stock bottom end out of a 95 truck, just added my heads etc., and sprayed a 175 on it for about a year. And not just talkin just a few times a week. Hell I even had a 250 on it with race gas for a while. I went as fast as a 6.75 in the 8th with a completely stock bottom end. (thats a 10 something in the quarter). It tragically broke a ring when I ran the 250 shot on pump gas.(Im sure it detenated like hell on pump gas) It didnt like that too much. As long as you adjust the timing and make sure it has fuel you should have no problems.
Re: Hypereutectic aluminum pistons and nitrous.....safe?
nitrous blows ^@$# up when it leans you out, make sure you have plenty of gas and you should be fine, like 350s generally can take up to a 150 shot on a 100% stock block without any sort of problems.
if it's worn, or you are burning some oil or something then i'd worry about whether the block can take it. But otherwise, run it wet, with high enough octane gas, take the timing out, it's like a degree every 50 or something like that but dont quote me on that and research it.
all nitrous is, is oxygen to promote more combustion than would otherwise be available, thus too little fuel = super lean super fast, and as everyone knows lean detonates, and....boom, so yea from what i've seen, you'll be fine, can check with the nitrous distributors too, like Zex, or edelbrock, see what they think
