94 Formula vs. 96-97 SS

I was driving home and this black ss pulls out behind me and starts riding close to my bumper. I turn right onto a 4 lane road and switch lanes and when i look im my rearview he isnt there so i glance over and coming up on me in the yield lane. I was about 30mph and was in 2nd and when i go WOT hes already next to me and got the jump. I hit 50 and my car hesitates and hes 1 1/2 cars ahead of me and switches into my lane. i let off because the turn to my subdivision was a couple hundred feet away. I need plugs/wires and possibly cap and rotor. Have a distributer seal leak and oil apparently was dripping on the belt flinging it all over the engine comparment .

Not sure of his mods. Couldnt hear anything over my cutout and Pantera even with the windows down . Not even sure if i could catch him if my car was running right cuz i dont know what his mods are.

You should be runing a lot faster then 14.23 more lke mid-high 13's. Fix your car up w/ a tuneup, or take some driving lessons. dont feel bad I missed 3rd gear and reved it to 6200rpm.

The best i could probably get is high, high 13's. Tracks at 2500ft and 05 mustang GT's are around 14.4's @96ish and some LT1's are around 14.6-14.7 @95-96. I do need some practice on the 60 though and i got a lot better tires now.

Contrary to most of the braggards on this board, your numbers are within the 90% of F-bodies I witnessed at the drags (Infineon - Sears Point).

LT1s routinely are low 14s. There may be a few that can crack into the 13s in stock form.

If you drive it like you stole it, you could net a few 1/10ths more ...Melt the tires, bust the diff, power shift the clutch, redline it in every gear, etc.

Stock street radials kill 60' times.

Also, most LS1s are high-13s. Again, contrary to most of the braggards on this board who will claim their stock LS1 will bust into the 10s.

Don't worry. You can still squash GTs with ease.

I've seen fully blown Cobras turn out paltry 13.9s. It's more reality than people admit. I also saw a race between two Z06s, one was a C5, the other a C6. The C6 Z06 turned a 12.56. That's about .7 seconds slower than Car and Driver, but I can tell you that the driver fully romped his car and that's what they actually do. Oh, and the C5 turned in a paltry 13.2. Gee, that's in stock LS1 territory...

I also saw a brand-new BMW M5 turn in a 13.8. That's 500 HP turning in "STOCK LT1 times".

Stock 96-97 SS w' an M6 will most likely turn a low 14. With mods and a perfect environment, they can twist a little quicker.

I've found the track to be completely hostile to stock radial tires, resulting in 2.2++ 60' times, which could easily be 0.2 seconds quicker and upto 0.5 seconds quicker ET if they had drag radials.

One of my Sergeants that I work for owns a 98 SS and has an SLP Lid and Loudmouth exhaust. So pretty close to stock on 275's. He has a best of 12.7 that i witnessed. Dont forget to factor in altitude, temp, etc. this was on a mid 60's day, with low altitude (not sure but were not to far above sea level)

They dont run 12's stock. 1 in maybe 100 drivers can get theirs into 12's. They are a mid 13 second car for the average driver.

Re: 94 Formula vs. 96-97 SS

I never raced mine at the track, but I did go out there now twice. I seen ALOT of LS1 cars running in the 13.5-14.00 range. So dont act like all LS1's run 12's. This was at Keystone Raceway in Pittsburgh ... This was a couple years ago when I was out there ... And even then I was shocked so see so many slow times. Not suprisingly, alot of the LT1 cars were running in the 13.8-14.2ish range ... Driver error makes up for a TON of it. I'm not bashing on LS1's, but I would not hesitate to race a single stock LS1 car ... ever.
