Im getting a 97 z28

Im 17 and this will be my first car..A 1997 z28 30 anniversary...

The anniversary sign is worn out between the 2 windows on both sides.. Is there something you can order to replace them. Are they just stickers or are they painted on?

How long do camaro's last? This one has 112,000 miles and the guy wanted $6,250 for it and i got him down to $5,750. Its a really nice camaro. Some of the cool featuers is when the car engine revs up (when you are going fast) the volume from the speakers automatically go up so you can heat over the engine. It has a 5 cd holder player thats in the trunk. It has a t-top, and ground effects. I cant wait till i get it i have a deposit on it for right now. I got to test drive it and loved it. When i first looked at it he told me to go ahead and start it and the engine sounded so sweet. He let me gun it a few times and i was like DAM/\/... He says there is a chip in it which gives the car i think 20 more Hp. I'll post pics when i get it because its gonna be the only thing i can do with it for about a month becasue of insurenece. I am putting the insurence on my mom's name and we got a quoute from a few places and it really isnt to bad.

And ya im new to the forums, so also wanted to say whats up to everyone!!!

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com. Car sounds great.... I can understand why you're anxious to close the deal.

I'll move this post to "General F-Body Tech an Info"...... the "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech" forum is very busy and we try to limit it to engine tech questions.

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

Congrats. I was a young one too when I bought my first LT1 car. I have 5 things to say to you:
1. Respect the power--it can get you into trouble real quick in more than one way.
2. Spend time reading the LT1/LT4 tech threads here at cz28.com. Sooner than later, you will need to work on the car. If you maintain it, the LT1 will last many many miles. I believe I saw a guy on this board with over 300,000 on stock engine/tranny but like everyone else he had to do the regular maintenance, including the optispark 4 times!
3. Be prepared to develop much patience and determination while working on the engine. Get familiar with the term "OPTISPARK."
4. Welcome to the board! There are great people here who seem to know everything. Shoebox has a great tech page on his webpage and Injuneer can help with just about anything. Get familiar with the Search button up top so you can try to find the answers before you ask the same question that has been asked 1000 times.
5. Camaros are great cars. Now start growing out your mullet and throw a couple jegs magazines in the back seat and you'll look like a pro!

Wow must be nice man, i wish that was my first car!! Congrats on gettin the car and welcome to cZ28.com....i always wanted a 30th Anv with T-tops!, its such an awesome ride! your gunna have some much fun with that car

About the 112,000 miles....the LT1s in our car will last a very long time if properly taken care of. So if thats the case then you should have nuthin to worry about. I have 105k on mine and she is still runnin strong.

What mods are you lookin at doing when you pay your insurance and all that god stuff?

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

Thanks for the fast replies.

Yeah i know this car is fast especially for a first car. I am definetly not gonna speed, burnout, or anything else that can get me in trouble. If i get a ticket mY insurence will probley go up and my parents will think im not responsible enugh to have a car like this, but i know i am. My dad said that with are camaro the cops will get at you more on speeding. Which is obvious.

As far as insurence my dad said he definetly wants me to have full coverage. I think it is like $157.13 a month, and $865.00 every 6 months. I have a job so it wont be a big problem paying it of. But i still need a plate and thats another $100. Im just glad im getting it because i did not think my parents would go for it. They give me the same amount of money they gave my sister for her car which she has a sebring that costed $4,500.. Im have about $3,000 in the bank but $1,500 of it is my parents.

Yeah theres gonna be alot to learn as far as how to keep up with everything for the car. Im gonna have to learn about the motor and everything so im glad i found this forum

I got the same exact car as my first car. Mine's evolved through the years that I've had it.

Welcome to the boards

I wouldn't recommend collision on a car that old. I don't think it's going to be worth it in the long run.

Congratulation, and excellent choice!

1. Learn everything you can about optisparks
2. Learn everything you can about optisparks
3. See above
4. Do a ton of reading, even if you don't need to know it, read it anyways. Reading, and searching are your friends

Don't worry about the miles. I bought my car with 177k and now has 185k. Only thing I replaced engine wise was the fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

Welcome! Like everyone else said get to know the car. Optispark is something you should do a search on and really read up about. Window motors die on our cars, plugs and wires with stock manifolds on these are a day or two job, dont drive through puddles, easy on the clutch dumps with our 10 bolts and you should be fine. There is tons to learn on this board. Ask me how I know.

I got 161k on my baby and she runs strong! Change the oil and you should have nothing to worry about.

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

Congratulations: but first let me tell you some truths---

Camaros are not the most trouble-free cars around.
They are a real bummer to work on because the way the engine is crammed in. Because of the torque, they can do a 360 on you in a nano sec, and especially when it is wet.

Because of your age, you will probably have a tough time keeping it at the speed limit and will be goaded by your peers and other drivers to punch it once in awhile.

The insurance---well what can I say---your rates are going to be high any way you look at it.

When you get it , you will never be satisfied until you have modded it---which often leads to more problems.

Not trying to cool your enthusiasm, just telling you like it is.

Other than that welcome to the club.

I'll be 17 in a couple months. I bought myself a 95 6speed Z with 70k on the clock. Me and my pops are installing a Spec stage 2 this weekened. More mods to come! Sounds like we're in the same boat, eh man?
good luck

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

im jealous of your insurance rates.
full coverage for me is around $300 a month

my basic insurance.. just state minimum which is liability only is $157 a month..

its so great being young and having to pay insurance.. you are lucky you get to go under your moms insurance.. i dont ahve anyone to go under thats why i pay so damn much.

Re: Im getting a 97 z28

Erm, my insurance (on my v6) was $208 a month for liability only, then I got a $100 'good student' discount, so it was $108. The insurance didn't go up at all when I switched over to my z28... lucky bastard.
