Re: LT5 help.

You better be one hell of a fabricator ...

They dont just "bolt in." The motor wouldnt fit between the fenders ... They are a WIDE motor. Think along the liens of the Ford Modular motors ... Their pretty damn big to try and fit in a F-Body.

Re: LT5 help.

Sorry man ... I was just saying ...

They are a 32 valve motor. They were used in the production ZL1's and ZR1's. They are a real beast of a motor.

This isn't the LT5 forum. Use google.

Re: LT5 help.

Cool factor would be worth it but other than that I couldnt see the point. What size is GM's other DOHC V8?

Shoebox made his comment while the post was still on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech"..... I later moved it to "General....."

The LT5 engine is an interesting tech exercise, but the reliability is poor, stock replacement parts are extremely scarce and expensive, aftermarket performance parts are limited, and people who know how to work on them are few and far between. And the base LS2 makes as much HP.

Re: LT5 help.

From what I remember reading, you CAN NOT buy an LT5 from Mercury Marine without a valid VIN from a Corvette ZL1/ZR1 or whatever little else came equipped with that engine.

Yes, yes, Lotus helped draw up the engine, but it's Mercury Marine that is the vendor for these bad boys and you can't just walk up with $20 GR and throw it down and expect a crate with an engine in it at your doorstep.

I'll file this under the 3.4L TDC/Northstar bin as "PITA to service" engines from GM....
