problems engaging reverse in my t56 with mecloed street twin

I bought a used street twin about 3 years ago fro a board member.I installed it and everthing was fine.reverse was alittle tougher then stock to engage but not to bad.when a pulled my car out this year from winter storage the first day I drove it the clutch fork broke i half and it caused my slave to blow apart.I replace the fork and slave with new gm parts and putting it in reverse is impossible with out grinding the gears. The guy I bought the clutch from told me that the slave he sent me was a modified stocker to have more pushing power.Any suggestions ? Can I buy a better slave over the stock one or is there something I am doing wrong? Not bleed properly? thanks in advanced.

Hey bro,

At some point McLoed switched from using a modified slave and a factory master to using the factory slave and a modified adjustable master. -If you have the factory master and now also the factory slave, you will have trouble. You could contact Mcloed and see if they have an older modified slave you can get, however you most likle need to just order the adjustable master from them. I am running the Adj. Master with the factory slave, and after spending about 8 hrs bleeding the stupid thing and adjusting it, I have not had any trouble at all.

Hope that helps,
-Justin

I was told that the adjustable master only adjusts pedal height?????????
I was also told to make sure the disks and pressure plates had proper clearance with clutch engaged????? what do you think?

thanks!

Re: problems engaging reverse in my t56 with mecloed street twin

Rob,

When you adjust the master cylinder, you increase the amount of pressure that is applied at whatever hight the pedal is at. So, you increase the pressure to the point that with the pedal all the way down, the clutch is fully disengaged. My setup took about 95% of the available adjustment. Now, if you continue to increase the pressure, you would than be making it so it would disengage fully before the pedal was all the way down, so you'd kinda be adjusting the pedal hight. . . but you'd also be putting additional pressure on the slave cyl and fork. . . .

If you are running both a factory master and a factory slave, you are going to continue to have problems. One or the other needs to be McLeods modified one. -I'd suggest the master.

You can check the engagement, what you want to look for is to see if the slave cyl is engaging fully and pushing the fork enough to completely disengage the clutch. -If not, you know your problem is in the hydrolics.

-I hope that helps. -Also, you can call McLeod's tech line, they have excellent support.

Justin installed the mcloed adjustable master today it it made no difference.I bleed the system too.the clutch pedal is about 1/2 inch below brake pedal.Mcloed says in the instructions that you should set it to about 1 inch below brake pedal.why isn't this working. very frustrated.ready to give up.what am I doing wrong????
