1997 Stock Radio

How can it be possible that my stok radion on the 1997 I own isa tape player? Every 94 I have seen has a CD player, and 95m but no my 97 has a tape player.. Did one of the previous owners mess it up and put one in?

CD player was most likely an option. OEM radio in my '96 Formula is also a tape player. One advantage is the tape players can control a cd changer. The cable is already in the car.

When I bought my 97, the option package I ordered had the non-Monsoon AM/FM cassette without CD. CD was an option. The low-end stereo was AM/FM cassette. I got this because I preferred to upgrade the stereo myself. My stock head unit had no provision for a CD changer that I'm aware of.

The standard option is the etr music search auto reverse tape player with no equalizers. An upgrade is the same radio with a 7 bar equalizer, and than the cd player with a 7 bar equilizer. All 93 and up radios have a provison to control a gm changer 6 or 12 disc. That is if you want to buy it for close to 600 dollars or find one on ebay for 200 with no cable. I would just get an rf after market changer for 200.

The cd changer cable is already in the car. You can use certain aftermarket changers with the tape player and factory cable with the correct adapter. If I'm wrong, I'm sure LS1rules will be in here.
