Talon tsi vs. me

On Monday or Friday I am planning on racing a 96 i think Talon tsi on 14 lbs of boost, full exhaust, intake, heads, and some other crap. Just wondering how you think I will do in my car. I dont think he has tires and its FWD. He also says it has more torque than HP, I thought that 4 cylinders have crappy torque but please correct me if im wrong. Thanks for giving your input in advance and I'll post results when I race him. He also said he estimated his car at 300 HP dont no if he meant to the crank or wheels, or if he knows the difference.

Those cars are quick, expecially if they are AWD but you should have no problem beating this one.

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

My buddy upgraded to a $4k turbo, a big *** intercooler, forged internals, dyno tuned, blah blah blah and he was running 12's on the brakes....

Before that, he had your buddy's mods and was running anywhere from 14.2-13.4 range....

Good Luck!!

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

did you mean 14.2-14.4 or is it 13.4-14.2 because that seems like a big difference.

mnerat ~ How do you figure? FWD would just make them suck that much worse cause you can't come off the line hard without spinning. At least the AWD ones you can launch the **** out of them lol ...

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

There are some fast FWD ones out there. Low 12s (haha) at 127 is the fastest I've seen. Looked stock to boot. Of course traction just isn't there for them.

And plenty of 4 cylinders can have more torque than hp... My daily driver has 300lbs-ft to the wheels and only 242HP from 4 cylinders.

low 12's at 127 says it all.....that mph is good for high to mid 11's, but obviously the car had a hard time getting moving (FWD + Big Tourqe= wheelspin)...race this guy from a dig and dont miss a shift...victory is not garunteed but I'd say you have a decent shot

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

Turbochargers often add more torque than horsepower. For instance, my Grand National makes maybe 270rwhp and about 350 pounds of torque.

I got my *** handed to me by a stock-appearing and sounding mid-90's Talon. I don't know if he was AWD, but this was on the highway, starting at 65-60mph. I don't know what his boost level was, or what mods he had, but just be warned that DSMs can be extremely fast without any sign from the outside that they're anything other than factory stock.

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

^ I take it that means you have experience with both of these things huh. I drove both, and was throughly dissapointed with both. I rode in a AOD 5.0 that had significant mods and was slower than my car stock. It had damn near full bolt ons. CAI, TB, MAF, Headers, H pipe, 40's, suspension work, Pullies, and I think but not positive, Upper AND lower intake. May just be upper though. It was SLOW.

And I drove a Talon TSI before I got my car. I knew they could be made whicked fast so I was keeping my options open. The thing sucked, but it was all stock. Im sure cranking up the boost would help alot though.

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

Stock, a DSM sucks tremendously. I mean come on -- they trap like 91-92 mph. That's slower than most family sedans these days.

The fun doesn't happen until the mods begin. They'll do whatever you want at that point, but you'd never believe they could start off so slow.

Re: Talon tsi vs. me

Yea , and especially at the price yu can grab one of them at now too. It would be cool to pick one up for $3000, put some mods into it, and DD it. It would be good on gas, respectably quick, and not to gay to be seen in. It's getting there, but their not THAT bad looking.
