wow, actually some good news from my email to GM

after i bought my camaro i realized the RPO codes were nowhere to be found on the car. i noticed that it came with a rather stock looking dual-outlet exhaust and that the original tire specs sticker on the driver's door were for a bigger tire than a regular V6. i got tired of wondering and i decided to email GM. after about a week and being juggled around by 3 different people, i finally got an answer.

Dear Mr. ......,

Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center, and for
giving me this opportunity to assist you.

I appreciate your recent email, and for indicating the specific information you
were requesting. I apologize that the websites that I had referred you to were
of no help, but I did find the information you were looking for.

To specifically answer your question concerning whether or not this vehicle was
built with the RPO code Y87 Performance Handling Package, the answer is yes.
This package included the limited slip differential, dual outlet exhaust system,
and the sport steering ratio of 3.42. This vehicle also included RPO code J65
which is the all wheel power disc brakes, MX0 for the 4 speed automatic
transmission, N96 for the 16" aluminum wheels, and the 1SC Camaro Coupe
Preferred equipment package. This package included electronic speed control, remote hatch release, fog lamps, electronic power door locks, power windows, electronic power twin remote mirrors, leather wheel cover, electronic remote keyless entry, and the theft deterrent system. To complete this list, this vehicle was also built with an F41 sport suspension package, and a 3.8 liter V6 engine.

I hope this information provides you with the answers you were searching for.
If there is anything else you require, please feel free to call or email me with
any additional requests you may have.

I have documented your concern in Service Request #1-404934404. To contact me,
please e-mail us again, or call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at
1-800-222-1020. Customer Relationship Managers are available Monday through
Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

You may also contact me directly. I am available Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to
11:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to
12:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. You may reach me directly at 1-866-790-5600,

I had the F41 option on my old 93 bird. Sure did handle good for a V6. Don't know exactly what it changed though.

I've gotten some of the nicest, personal responses from GM, which is why I will continue to buy from them (the cars/trucks are great too !)

Not to sound like I'm bashing anyone at all, but assisting the customer is what "Mr. Thomas Panther" gets paid to do.

It's pretty bad when we get jaded to the point that we are surprised that we get anything more than a robot e-mail as a reply to our questions.

Like when I flip through FTE, a bunch of guys were wondering what will come of the v10 after 2008. Ford proceeds to fire off nothing but form letters with different names on them back to all the guys who inquired. Even a "Muhammed" came back as a name from Ford on one of the replies. Diverse and nothing else from that game of charades.

Too bad a decent chunk of the rest of GM isn't that good at their specific jobs.

I understand/appreciate your observation, and agree that it's their job to be good customer reps. Unfortunately, I also have experience w/Ford's regional/headquarters customer service reps and IF there was a response at all, it was usually of the "one size fits all" genre.

There are good reps and bad reps with any company; but I haven't had a bad GM experience yet, while nearly all of my Ford experiences were not so good.
