got some knock retard........normal???

As some of you may have read last week I had just gotten my Formula out of storage for the last 6 months last week and all seems to be good. I have been driving it the odd day or so whenever I can get her out of the garage.

Today I went for a nice drive to run down my full tank of 6 month old gas on the highway. I had my scanner hooked up so I could check all the readings while driving. One thing I noticed was that under light moderate acceleration at highway speeds in 6th I was getting some knock retard which I never had the last few years I would drive the car. It would only show about 1 or 2 degrees of KR but once I let off the throttle it would return back to 0.

Going into third gear and punching it also showed me some KR of 1-2 degrees and back to zero when letting off the throttle.

Would old gas cause this? I plan to drive the car more tomorrow and burn off the last 1/4 tank of gas that's still in there before filling it up with fresh stuff tomorrow. I also bought a bottle of fuel injector cleaner that I'm going to pour into the tank to clean the injectors.

Another thing I was wondering is my Spohn TA, I have the version mounted with rod ends so there are no bushings anywhere. It obviously transmits some noise and harshness through the car and was wondering if the KS is picking up some of that as knock. I have the LT4 KM in the ECU though. Another thing related to the TA is my 2 driveshaft loops, specifically the rear one. I haven't confirm the loop location in relation to the exhaust pipe after the cats before going over the axle when the car is sitting on the tires but when the car was stored up on jackstands the loop ever so slightly touches the exhaust pipe, again this could cause some noise to be interpreted as knock.

Even with the sensor pulling some timing out (the 1 or 2 degrees) I don't notice it having any bad effects to how the car accelerates but it would be good if I didn't have any KR at all. What are your thoughts?

Tony

I don't know if the loop could cause false knock by hitting the exhaust--but I do know that six month old gas definitely loses octane. I don't know how much--but it deteriorates and IMO is the cause of your problem. Get some fresh high octane in there asap.

Looks like it was bad gas (or old gas) after all. Been driving the car a bit and I'm on the 3rd tank of the good stuff. Checked for KR with the scanner and zilch, nada.

All is well again!!!!!
