Stupid cop

Was out at the spot where everyone races, watching my buddy's LT1 on DRs stomp a few imports, having a good time.

On the way out I spot two county cops hauling ass the opposite way.
One turns around, nails me. Got the spotlight in the eyes, stood in front of the headlights, whole nine yards. I think to myself, this is ok, I wasnt actually racing.

Now, I have a full 3 inch exhaust with an e-cutout. I have the quietest, most restrictive muffler that the exhaust shop sold. The car barely even has any tone, and stock tips. It is seriously a quiet car. She idles very smoothly.

The officer gives me a verbal warning about street racing, and not to do it.

Ok.
Then he looks at my still running car, and says
"That car has an illegally modified exhaust. Its got a racing exhaust on it. You hear that lope? A stock exhaust don't lope like that--that thing is set up for racin." Mind you the cutout was sealed tight.

I was so flabbergasted at this point I couldnt think of a response. I turned and stared at my tips for about five seconds, at which point the officer says " Yep, you hear it, that thing lopes like a race car"

He ended up giving me a written warning for exhaust.
What an ignorant sonofagun.

It depends on the cop. My buddy got a ticket for his Magnaflows on his '95 Mustang GT. That cop swore to him that it was illegal, but then again he's gotten stopped by other cops and they didn't say a word. When I got pulled over last August and recieved my warning for speeding, the cop complimented my car. He didn't say one word about being careful because my exhaust was too loud or anything of that nature.

 Is'nt it funny how Florida is NOT a pollution controlled state and they still pull that ****. I'm sorry but there are about 1million Harley Davidsons that either need better mufflers, or to be put down with a shot gun roaming around the U.S. Not to mention all the rice vehicles that are obnoxious. I want to see the legal section that states we can't modify our cars, because I'm pretty sure it's a crock of **** that was made up to hinder the growth of street racing.

Well, at least you only got warnings...No doubt he was an idiot, but I guess things could've been worse...

When I owned my Firebird for about two weeks i merged onto a 55mph street at like 930pm. I was in second and gave it WOT, switched gears and was close to 70mph. At that time a see a parked car and think cop, so i go by at 50mph and sure enough its a cop. All of a sudden lights are everywhere, they caught me in a speed trap. I pull over and the cops asks how fast i was goin? "around 70mph". the cop asks why i was speeding. Heres my best excuse. " i have a v6 camaro and umm only owned this car for a week so umm theres quite a difference in power and im not used to driving it."

The cops says i took that corner pretty well and im like " no the cars just real loud." The cop looks over to see the numbers from the track on the rear window. He says " you take this to the track?" ...shi*. "i sure did officer." He asks "what did you run?" " a traction limited high 14." He replies " oh, well this car should be alot quicker so how about you practice at the track and not on the street." "yes sir."
At that point i craped myself about 4 times after he walked back to his car. So there are good ones and idiots. Just thought it was a funny story. And yes my excuses have gotten alot better.

He was giving you a hard time because there was racing in the area that you were involved with. Whether you were racing or watching, you were involved with it. What do you expect from him?? If he pulled you over on any other night anywhere else where street racing wasn't happening the thought of your exhaust being loud probably wouldn't have ever crossed his mind.
Be happy your friend who was racing didn't get arrested and lose his car and that you didn't get a real ticket. He was being nice to you, trying to teach you a lesson, ie...good cop. Believe me I have run into jackass cops, this guy sounds like he was hardly one, he was just giving you a hard time so you'd think twice about racing next time. Obviously you didn't learn anything (it took me more than once to figure it out too). Sorry fo the tone.

Anyways, what cars did your friend run?

The statute here in FL says " may not modify noise abatement device"

And my buddy ran a stock EVO8, killed him handily. A Talon TSi, gutted, killed him. And, a bolton+tuned 05 GT Stang, killed, but was close.

Oh, and I have stock tips. It sounds stock, and it is a quieter than stock muffler. You hear more from the header primaries than you do the tips. This cop was just BSing, and I knew it as soon as he said a word about my exhaust. But, he wasnt a bad guy, as you say, just ignorant.

I have learned to turn the car off when I'm pulled over.
