Actual Boost vs. Pulley

Hey guys, I searched and came up with nothing worthwhile...My question is that If im running a 6lb Pulley on my Powerdyne and only show 4-4.5 lbs of boost on the gauge, even without much slipping do to VHT and a pretty tight new belt. Does that mean that I can theoretically add a smaller blower pulley or larger crank pulley to try and get myself up to a higher boost pressure, (say 6-7 lbs) or is the 6 that it supposedly is pushing about it? Ive worked with turbo cars before and its always been "boost is boost", but Im not sure what to do with a blower.

Also, what can someone honestly run on an lt1 boostwise, that would show up on the gauge itself.

Re: Actual Boost vs. Pulley

Most do not want to spin the blower past the manufacturers redline. Well, some people do spin them faster but efficiency falls off pretty quick.

You should be able to get this formula from the manufacturer:

Impeller Speed = (Crank Pulley Dia. * Blower Step Up * Eng. RPM) / Blower Pulley Dia.

Step up for the PD should be 3.05. Better check with Powerdyne though.

So, you can pulley the blower to max out at your shift rpm to get the most out of the combo.

Re: Actual Boost vs. Pulley

You should be seeing 6# of boost in your intake at approxiamtely 6K rpms if your still running a stock engine. If you're only seeing 4.5#, something is wrong. Back when my engine was stock I installed a new 6# Vortech S Trim kit. I was only seeing about 4# of boost at 6K rpms. After a lot of troubleshooting, I concluded that the blower wasn't generating the proper boost. Returned the blower head to Vortech, they tested it and confirmed the issue, rebuilt it and returned it to me. Problem solved.
