285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
Hey guys do you think the same tire brand which one would be better in the 2756 or 285, I used to run 275, but now got 285 which is a tad bitt wider, but also taller so it might ride better but be less of a handling tire? I have a set of 285 Kuhmo's MX, I have been happy withe these tires and they still have a 3.5/32ths or so I thnk and I have put 21k or so on them.
I do belive you get what you pay for. But I have used 712 or 711 and don't know how much better the MX are, I am happy with the treadware though.
I was looking at the G-Force Sport the "ratings are 8.8 for handling and 9 for dry traction" Seems better than theother tires in the price range such as avs es1090,wide oval(would like to try this though) and the MX which I know have been good tires. Just let me know any input guys. Thanks
If I got with 285 my only choices are Kumho SPT,MX,Fireston wide oval. 121,156 and 158 respectivly.
If I got with 27 there is F-force Sport,AVS es100,wide oval,mx. 122,131,147,148.
I just don't know if its worth paying an extra 136 dollars from the G-force 275 to a 285 kumho MX. I'm thinkin of really trying these. I will be doing only summer driving, or winter driving in the rain, we really don't get snow or ice here too much a week a year. I have my DD I will be using for most winter driving.
Also I wondor how many ply the sports are I noticed that my friends esta had more ply than my MX kumhos and mine are like 40 bucks more a tires I thought that was odd.
275/40/17
75/25.4 = 10.82677
.40 x 10.82677 = 4.33
2 x 4.33 = 8.66"
17 + 8.66 = 25.66
285/40/17
285/25.4 = 11.22
.40 x 11.22 = 4.488
2 x 4.488 = 8.9763
17 + 83.9763= 25.9763

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I wouldn't worry about the tire size when it's only a 10mm difference. Just buy whatever tire brand/type you think would suit your needs better. Don't get hung up on 275 vs. 285, there's barely a difference anyway.
Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I have the kumho mx 285 x 17 on my car. I really think they are a good all around tire for the money. They also hook very well when the weather is warm
Im happy with them.

I have had the MX's for 2 years and still have like 3 or 4 32ths with about 21,000 miles on the tire I'm happy, but I always looking to do better and or cheaper.
These tires are all like 90 dollar's cheaper a set. I did look at the GS3 goodyears but 800+ is way too much.
Chocies 275/40/17
Kumho ECSTA ASX 109.00
Kumo ECSTA SPT 112.00
AVON Tech M550 A/S 119.00
BFGoodrich-G-Force Sport 122.00
Chocies 285/40/17
Kumho ECSTA SPT 121.00
Kumho ECSTA ASX 121.00
What do you guys think? Looks like the next best tire up is about 25 more dollars a tire the wideoval and the MX which I currently have. But I could save 100 dollars going with these chocies.
What tire do you think would be best out of my 275 chocies? Thanks

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I'm going to get 285's all around, but I'm springing for Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. Incidentally, a 285/40YR17 is $1 more than a 275/40YR17 (GS-D3 from TireRack).
The 285 tire is 8mm taller, with only 4mm of extra sidewall. You're not going to notice a difference in ride quality. The extra 10mm at each corner should help traction a little, too.

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
Thanks. Yea the GS-D3's look nice but I dont' think I want to justify the increased 300 or 400 dollars.
I have 285 right now and couldn't really tell a different from 275, but I think 285 is better since I do have the 9.5 wehels
So any opinoins on the budget tires I got listed?
Also where is a website to show the # fo belts in these tires. I would like to know and can't find that info on the manf site.

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I don't like Kuhmo's. In general, Kuhmo's don't handle heavier cars very well. They work great on imports and other compacts, where the cars are lighter and the horsepower and torque numbers are lower.
The Wide Oval might be your best bet. I've never actually driven on them, but I've heard good things.

Kumho ECSTA ASX 109.00
Kumo ECSTA SPT 112.00
AVON Tech M550 A/S 119.00
BFGoodrich-G-Force Sport 122.00
So out of these choices what do yu think will be best tire. Looking more for handling and don't care about ride comfort. More perfomrance.
Looks like the M550 or the G-force would be good. Never had Avon and I had a KDWS tire on my car and it was ok, but not super great either. Thanks

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I'm not familiar with the G-Force Sport, but I haven't found a Kumho that worked well on any Camaro, and I've never heard of Avon. My car has BFG's on it right now (g-Force T/A KDWS), and they're decent.
So if you made me pick, I'd go with the BFG.

Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
I have Grand Sport wheels with the 11s in the back. If you have the same setup or just a 11 inch wheel I would do a 285 they look alot better when on the wheel. they bow out and not in like 275s.
Re: 285 vs 275 which one is better, new tires?
Thanks guys. I have the 9.5 wheels and not 11 so I can rotate them. I had the kdws it was ok, but not super great. I think I might try the G-sports or avon, I like the Kumho MX pretty well but there like 30-40 bucks more a tire and in this price range I think the others would be better. I can't see really difference between 275 and 285 so I will just save the cash and get a better sticker 275 tire then a worse 285 tires I think that makes sense.
