Subs / Bass in convertible?
Subs / Bass in convertible?
I used to have 2 12's in my 94z convt.. they hit pretty well but with the top down they were close to useless as they seemed to create more rattle than bass.. i'm sure this is mostly due to the way the convertible top folds down pretty much on top of where the subs were sitting.
Well im planning on re-doing the system (car was broken into and amp/subs were taken), and was hoping for some feedback on how I could do it a little better this time and hopefully get some bass with the top down.
Previous setup:
Stock deck w/ stock garbage speakers from 94z
2 12" JL Audio W3's w/ 500/1 JL Audio amp
This time im planning on getting new deck (most likely ecplise), new speakers all the way around (no idea - could use ideas on this as well), higher wattage amp.. not really decided on the subs yet.. im thinking alpine type r's.
10's or 12's, undecided... If im not convinced i can get some pretty good bass with the top down, I'll probably go for a single subthump stealth box with a 10" Alpine Type R, but any and all feedback/ideas is more than welcome..

Re: Subs / Bass in convertible?
alpine type r subs create more loudness then they tight bass that a kicker or inifinty sub put out. you should also get a sealed box which allows for a tighter bass and you need to keep moving the box around, like facing the subs toward you or toward the rear of the car, until you figure out which way sounds better. pluse you should really get a 2 channel amp for 2 subs.
