Mustang mid-cycle enhancement pushed back?

Ford. Word is that the Mustang mid-cycle enhancement has been pushed back by one year, even though most of the design and engineering work was wrapped up in February. Even worse, several design programs at Ford have either been scaled back or cancelled, indicating fewer new models and subsequently - more programs getting old in the 2008-2011 time frame. NVG (Not Very Good).

At Ford, the hits just keep on coming. :rolleyes: :no: :shame:

1 year isn't a big deal, but Ford's "Way Forward" is looking alot like "GM backwards".

Well, if ain't broke don't fix it. I'm sure giving the Mustang a mid-cycle upgrade isn't exactly a necessity right now. :dunno:

What model year was it supposed to be released? Maybe they are banking on waiting until the Camaro and Challenger hit the streets, then unleashing a refreshed Mustang to help from losing sales.

I hope they are pushing it back to put more effort into the Mustang platfom based Sedan. Ford could use a fun RWD V8 sedan.

He's wrong on one point. 2009 refresh was not finished in engineering. I would estimate about 75-80% finished. Design, hardpoints, and general system engineering was complete, but production signoff is/was not ready yet. That is unless a miracle has happened in the last month, and it looks to be quite the opposite.

They may be trying to align the release with Camaro, but I think it is more of a resource issue than anything. They let go A LOT of people.

I don't care so much about the mid-cycle freshening being pushed back as I do the fact that OTHER Ford releases are being pushed back. Other than a FUsion and the Mustang, Ford has pure crap for cars right now. The Focus is awful, the 500 is as lame as can be, and...oh wait, those are the only other cars they have...maybe if Mercury was more than a warmed over Ford, I'd be more impressed, too...

I agree. Michiganders seem to really like the Zephyr as well. Though I can't really figure out why....

The Auto industry in nothing but a cyclical gloom and doom drama.

DCX rode pretty high in the 97-98 timeframe and tanked....look where they are now.

I remember 99-2000 there were articles all in the car mags about how great Ford was and that they had $25 billion in cash under the masterful guidance of Jac Nasser:confused: Look where they are now. They even almost went bankrupt for they Aero T-bird came out and saved the company in the 80's.

GM too has had it's ups and downs.....Delphi is a big mess waiting to...but I think everyone will pull through.


One thing I do not get is how a company thinks it can make more money selling fewer models and less cars? I know there is theroy behind it...but reducing capacity is just a cop out for not building better cars. GM should be running Kia outta business....not closing plants.

Now that's one thing I can agree on 100%. It's amazing how many people won't look at GM cars and trucks because they've been brow-beaten by their friends and neighbors with how "bad" GM quality is, yet walk over to the Kia dealership and buy one of those poop boxes. :confused:

The sad thing is, the Focus and Fusion would be really fine cars for jazzing up by SVT...it there was still an SVT.

The Mustang, F150 and Focus are new in 09. I know that Ford cannot figure out if the new Mustang IP will be a hard IP or foam injected.
