convert to obd2

is it possible to take a 94 car and convert it to an obd2 computer w/ out basically redoing all the electrical crap or is it a no go and you can only go from obd2 to obd1? wondering because i have seen some awesome gauges that plug right in that fit in an autometer gauge pod that give you full diagnostics.

Well you're going to need to have an OBII connector for those, and they definately don't work with an OBI computer. I asked about this gauge for my 95 but someone else had tried it with a 95 and it didn't work.

As far as converting to OBII I'm not entirely sure what needs to be done. All I know is that these gauges WILL not work at all with an OBI computer.

Converting to OBD II isn't that hard. You'd need a OBD II PCM with the rear O2 sensors and crank position sensor programed out. You will have to change the knock sensor and replace your diagnostic port with a OBD II port for the gauge to connect to it. That's all I can think of right now. I had actually consittered doing this but never got around to it.

That is what needs to be done, however, you should consider a Scanmaster before going through the trouble of converting to OBD2 just for this one gauge.

Re: convert to obd2

scanmasters look tacky! my car is a full show car, many one off parts so money is not a concern, i love the look of those gauges. trust me i'm not some kid that is asking a question and it will never get done. i use my car as a rolling advertisement for work, i modify countless cars for people here in az. so having something like this that not many people would have is up there on my list.

Well then, in that case I could see such an expense being justified.

Re: convert to obd2

as far as the obd2 port do is there a connector harness that you unclip and clip in the new one or is it running new wires from the pcm and such??

Re: convert to obd2

There is no such harness available. You will need a connector with wires from some junkyard car or you will need to order one from GM and crimp the new pins onto your old wires. You will also need to run a new wire or two to the PCM.
