What to do, C5 FRC or my old dream car a 30th SS...
Back in 2000 I had a 1997 30th anniversary Camaro SS. It was white with the orange stripes, houndstooth interior, 6speed and hardtop. I absolutely loved the car. Well my ex-wife and I went through some tough times and I needed to sell the car.
Fastforward to now. I am single, have a really nice nest egg set aside and I am in the market for a sportcar again. I am really interested in a 1998-2001 FRC C5, 6speed and probably doing some mods on it. I am not looking for a drag car, more of a cruiser, occasional road race event. But not a day goes by that I don't regret letting go of that 30th SS. It is to the point now where I am possibly thinking of trying to find an exact match of the one I had and buying that instead.
I don't need to hear about how the LS1>LT1 or anything like that, but just wondering what you guys would do in my situation.

I have kept my '95 Z28 around for the sheer fact that it has a lot of personal value to me- it's the first car that I've bought and paid for all on my own, I've done some stupid things in it (and learned my lessons), gone to many cruise-in's and track events in it and so forth.
However much sentimental value the car has, I regret keeping it more and more everyday. I hate how it is designed and put together, I hate how unreliable the components are, and I just get the feeling that not matter how much time I put into it, more time than I want to spend is going to be just keeping the damn thing running halfway decent.
I would personally buy the C5 if nothing more for a "less hassle of ownership" factor. Remember, the less money you have to spend fixing broken things, the more money you can spend on mods.

if its possible track down the guy you sold it to, find the car and go from there. that would be REALLY cool. i know how it feels tho. my first car was a 93 Z-28 that i wrecked. my new car is faster, tighter, newer and overall better but i still feel like NOTHING will replace that Z. find one that is just like it, or you can always recreate it. find one that is really nice and you really like and make it look just like the other one. most important thing i think is finding one that "feels" the same. good luck i know what its like.

Dude, C5 all the way. No need to even think twice. To sweeten the deal getting the same car you had before would only remind you of the tough times. The C5 would erase the sad memories of the past and replace them with only a smile a Corvette can have.

It's not your cars fault it won't stay together (running, what ever). I hate to see people saying this. In my opinion it's all in how well you put it together. Sure I spent OVER $10,000 on my motor, trans, and rears (was keeping the 10 bolt ever a mistake
) But, I drive my car EVERYDAY and drive it hard at the track. It never fails me, I've NEVER had to walk because of it. So, moral of the story.................build it right and it'll treat you right. It cost lots of $$ to build it "right" but it's worth it.

Your logic is completely, and utterly wrong.

As much as I love my Camaro, if I had a chance to get a nice C5 I would jump on it in a second...Will you be able to keep your Formula when you get the 'Vette? If your keeping your Formula then I really see no reason to get a Camaro. Go for the 'Vette and then if you decide you really did want another Camaro, I'll trade you mine

I parted out the Trans Am and it is now my little brother's project drag car. I was going to go drag car with it, but I want something i can work on the suspension and drive it.

Yeah, I think I have decided to go with the C5. I haven't driven one yet and everybody says if you drive one you will fall in love with it.

I sold cars at a GM dealership for a while, so i got to drive all kinds of ****. I love my Z28, but those Corvettes i drove were like sex on wheels. Hope you find just the right one for yourself, man. They're tons of fun!
Re: What to do, C5 FRC or my old dream car a 30th SS...
If you want an C5 FRC, they only made them in 99, and 2000, then they became the Z06 in 01. Go with the FRC, bad *** car. My buddy has a black 99 FRC with the STS twin turbo kit that was installed this last weekend. BAD ***. Thats all I can say. An STS kit is paid for an on the way for my camaro as well. Either way you go will be a great choice.
