Early signs of posi dying..?

ok heres what ive got goin on right no with this.. (among everything else that has decided to die on it lately ) anyway the car still spins both tires when i brake torque it, but goin around corners at slow speeds it tries to lock both in, and sometimes laetly when it hits second gear itll kick to the side a bit like normal if im turning but then itll jerk hard and i only hear one tire spining, and same if i turn and give it a little too much gas.. it just roasts the inside tire (always the inside, checked goin both ways) so any ideas or is my rear goin bye bye?

The posi is suppose to unlock around corners. The outside wheel will always travel a longer distance than the inside, and if they are both locked, the outside wheel will end up dragging. There is nothing wrong with your posi in my opinion.

Re: Early signs of posi dying..?

i wish you were right, but i woudlnt think this if it were acting differently in the same spots that its always been predictable to me. and yes i know what it does when it locks both, thats how i know its doing it. anyways my point being the outside is suppose to spin more turns on corners but the inside tire is goin up in smoke?... and sometimes if it breaks loose on the 1-2 shift i cna feel it only start spinnin with one wheel even if it starts out with both (keep in mind im still talking about doing this same thing in the same area every once in awhile) its just started this recently.. but my main concern is that it feels like its only spinning one tire most of the time, but still spins both wot and brake torquing just enough to turn the tires to see if both are spinning... i just figured it might be in the very early stages of goin out... but hey im open to the suggestion that its just fine!!!

Well I'd say open the cover up and change the oil/additive. If anything looks/smells burnt then the posi is probably on its way out.

The inside tire might be burning since it isn't unlocking??? Or do you mean the outside turns the normal amount and the inside turns like a burnout?

not really sure about that part, whichever it is i know the inside tire acts like its all it can do to not spin but it cant help but spin lol. and the fluid and additive was just changed last year, had a 3.73 gear put in and the mechanic didnt say anything looked like it wa son its way out *shrug* maybe im just tryin to make somethin bad out of a few odd spins, just bothers me that a lot of the time lately it acts like its only spinning one tire instead of powering both. but like i said brake torque i still get 2 marks on the pavement *shrug*

Then I wouldn't worry too much about it just yet.

How has your posi held up since this post started RacingTiger04? Mine's been engaging a bit "sideways" lately into 2nd but i recently put a higher stall + shiftkit in so i'm having a hard time determining if its changed or not...

still no problems out of it, just doin the same as it always has. so nearly 7 months later and its still ok, i wouldnt worry about it too much cause i can still leave solid posi lines as far as i want to from a dead stop. I did however have to have some new gears put in awhile back from a track incedent, and asked the mechanic to look at the posi for me and replcae it if it was looking rough, he said everything on it looked fine while he was in there. Perhaps its just a characteristic of these when they start to age *shrug* in any case it has lasted a LOT longer than i thought it would from the day it started this (watch itll die on me this week now lol) also as a side note, when i had my trans rebuilt to a full race version while it was still an auto is when it started so im sure the shift-kit brings that kicking right in 2nd to the surface more, and any slope in the road will casue this as well, because at the track i race at in the left lane the rear stayed straight but would spin for 20' after hitting 2nd which killed my 8th mile time .. but in the right lane it would kick hard right but only spin half the distance *shrug* (maybe my foot woudl get weary with my rear aiming for a wall lol.)

srry for the long post in short mines still fine and i woudlnt worry about it anytime soon if i were u either
