Screw the trans-am t-handle, get the one from the Impala (the LT1 style).

It fits, is much nicer and looks good in Camaro (I have one).

5LITEREATER Can you post a picture? I'm really interested in doing this on the Z if it looks a little bit "badder". I think the shifter we have looks pretty gay.

Ok, so I should have cleaned the interior up a little bit but here you go anyways:

I actually keep the stock **** in the console in case I get bored with this one but haven't so far.

I do plan on cutting an inch off the stick to make the **** drop lower.

What do you think?

WAY WAY WAY BETTER! It covers up more of the wimpy tube too. Thanks for going to the trouble for those pix...I'm doing it!

By the way, I started trying to mod factory shifter by using a B&M Hammer handle, fitting it with a a tube that slides over the stock pole and cutting the pole down. Once I did that the little clipping device and button attatchment was gone. It was a disaster. The handle would spin, (should have done a square tube) and since it has to go up and down, it was so heavy it would not release unless you banged it down and then held up on it to get your key out of the ignition.
I'm only telling you this, because once you cut that pole down, I think you are screwed. Ended up installing a whole new (used) shifter dude. Unless you have a better plan, I would not try to cut that pole down.

Thanks again buddy! WAY BETTER than the WOOSY grandmother thing we have now.

Huh, that's odd. Glad you warned me. I saw a post of a guy cutting it down. Didn't mention in problems with it. Are you sure it wouldn't work with a factory style shifter (that still uses the staple thing, which this t-handle does BTW)?

I shouldn't say it won't work, I just don't see how.

Won't cutting it down remove the staple thing? Or change the geometry?

Having said that, I would REALLY REALLY like to cut it down myself. Let me know if you can find that post again, OK?

Best, Ram

Ok, you could make it work (with a stock style handle that uses the staple to hold it in place). Here's how (assuming you want to lower in an inch):

Pull your stock **** off.

Measure an inch down on the metal (from the top of the metal) and then and inch down (again on the metal) from where the metal shaft has slots in it for the staple.

Cut and inch off the metal shaft (being very careful not to cut the plastic plunger) and then "notch" the shaft and inch down from where the factory "notches" were for the staple.

Then just cut an inch off the plunger and re-install.

Should work fine as long as you are careful and attentive to detail.

As soon as I get time I am going to do it.

OK Great man. I appriciate you doing the Ginea Pig Thing! Sounds like you have a good plan on the notches.

I know I have all the dremel goodies! I'm going to look for an IMpala shifter now.

Thanks!
