yes , it seemd like when i was trying to twist it, that the stick itself started to turn, it probably would have broke something if i would have kept going

i guess ican probably just take the stick off at the bottom? and just keep the **** and stick together

The stock stick is mounted in a rubber bushing. Apply enough torque to the ****, and the stick might be able to turn.

Re: trying to get my shift **** off on my 6spd.. but it wont come off..

I ended up removing the stick, wrapping it in cardboard and clamping it in a vise. Then I had to twist the **** off with both hands. I did this with my factory Hurst shift lever because I was tearing the rubber adhesion (ruining the thing) in the stick while trying to remove that cool **** while still in the car. The **** was apparently too well thread locked.

Regards

You will only need to detach the leather cover, pull it up over (but not off) the ****. It will look like a person pulling a Tee shirt up over their head but the neck hole will be too small to go over the head.

I think you need to press inward on the front sides of the plastic retainer for the leather cover. Press in on only one side at a time. Be careful with this as the plastic retainer seems rather fragile. You will feel it detach as it moves away from the console. Carefully lift the front up on the detached corner and maneuver the opposite side so it is also free of the console. A little movement forward and the rest of it should be completely detached.

You will then see two bolts going through the lever into the shifter stub. These will be a little tough to loosen because they are thread locked too but not so much that a little effort won't free them up. When these are removed your lever is off with the **** and leather shifter cover. If you can't pull the cover over the bottom end of the stick then you will still need to remove the **** as described above.

Good luck.

Hi. I'm going to give my opinion and figure on some replies to correct me but I can't resist this.

I bought one of those short sticks that cost me $20. It was a quick installation and the change from my rubber cushioned Hurst was noticeable. Mostly positive except for the buzzing at higher RPMs. That's primarily the reason the factory Hurst mounted the stick encased in rubber.... Anyway, I've heard so much good regarding the Pro 5.0 that I bought one. I had read there was some buzzing with the Pro 5.0 but making a gasket to go between the shifter and transmission would eliminate it. So I made one and installed it all.

I'm no racer and am probably not a good judge for some things like a shifter for performance. I admit that I tend to lack the best synchronization when slow shifting into 3rd. I've never blown a quick shift into any gear but I must be lazy when putting around because occasionally I muff the 2nd to 3rd shift and have to make a 2nd attempt. Anyway, I have to say that with my driving style, I can't tell a difference between my Pro 5.0 and the Hurst with the short lever. The Pro 5.0 still will buzz a little just like the short stick Hurst and today I boinked a 2nd to 3rd upshift. While an open hand thrust forward plants the gearbox into 3rd with the Hurst just as positively as the Pro. You will gain side tension adjustment and those external adjustable front and back stops to protect your shifting forks. The T56 does have internal stops btw.

I want to give this to you to consider before you install your short stick and think hey, this is great. Think how much better it will get with the Pro 5.0. In my estimate, not much if at all. This is just my opinion and I have no credentials or reason to have a better opinion than anyone else.

Good luck
