97 + Interior, Where to mount the Roady 2 XM Radio?

I've run out of idea's. I wanted it to not look tacky for when I attend car shows and I WANTED to completely replace the Ashtray in the Center Console and mount it there however, that might not be an option for two reason's... One being I can't remove the AshTray door without fear of breaking it completely which I might need it again incase this doesn't workout right. The other being I would most likely have to dremel out all the insides of the Center Console's plastic, the parts that support the Ashtray and once again if it doesn't work out right, I would have screwed up my car... Nor do I have a dremel / drill like that anyway... Any other ideas? It's a device about the size of a radar detector... Pic below

Re: 97 + Interior, Where to mount the Roady 2 XM Radio?

I'm trying to decide where to put mine. I bought it for the Camaro but so far the Fiancee has managed to comandeer it for the winter for her Jeep. I was planning on mounting it inside the armrest to keep it out of site. I'm also going to look into mounting it to the little cubby in front of the shifter. I know it won't fit IN there but I might be able to rig it so it sits in front of it with the mount being in the cubby. On another forum I heard someone mounting it on their visor. I have the home kit with remote for mine so I can use the remote if I put it somewhere not easily in reach. I don't want to hack up my console to fit it in there either.

I never thought of mounting it inside the glovebox... For the cubby hole, it might be a bit difficult to get the plugs into the reciever as it's a very tight area between there and the cigar lighter. I was going to throw a switch plate up there so it's a nono for me. I was THINKING of removing at the Ashtray and mounting it there but I would really have to hack up the interior to accomplish it, and if it fails then I screwed up my center console... A remote would have been nice but unfortunately mine didn't come with one so it has to be a bit visable yet refined which is hard on our cars. However I'll still keep the Glovebox in mind...

Either a custom mold in to an abs replacement headline that flips down, or a fixed placement in the headliner. I think it could be done very nicely with some patience and practice mock-up.

Curious what kind of shop can do custom moldings to plastic such as those aswell as mount the system? Perhaps they can do it to my center console instead by replacing the AshTray?

Thats a 93-96. He said 97+ which is WAY diffrent. But it does look nice there.

I would suggest mounting it inside of the visor...

The Sun Visor? That would be alittle difficult to run wire (Don't know how to lower the headliner), Also wouldn't be very friendly as far as changing stations... But thanks for the suggestion...

I have seen people run their cd players through their sun visors...If a TV screen can go in there, Im sure a xm radio could...

Can you get me a pic?

Also how do you remove the Driverside Cigar lighter? (One closest to the Den) .. I'm thinking about just putting it there...

Sorry about the hold up on the pics. I don't know how to post pics so I just made a page on my CarDomain site. Click on the site in the sig and go to page 7. If you need anymore info just let me know.
